Product Overview

Broan Elite trash compactors simplify waste containment and removal. A full-swinging, reversible door opens to an easy-to-clean compartment and a full-extension trash bucket. Its simplified control panel requires just two settings to start the process. Turn the activation key, close the door and touch one button. That’s it. Removing the compacted bag is easy, too—lower the bucket front and slide the bag forward to the floor. There’s no more lifting over the side. Broan Elite compactors also use our exclusive six-month odor control and neutralizing system. Rotate the dial once a month and a fresh segment is ready to work.

  • Compact the equivalent of six (6) 13 Gal. trash containers into one bag
  • Trash bucket has drop down door for easy trash removal
  • Full extension ball bearing trash bucket drawer slides for smooth action
  • Removable key switch prevents unauthorized compaction, safety lock prevents compaction when door is open
  • This item does not qualify for the Major Appliance Delivery & Haul Away or Installation Services

Yes, leftovers can be placed in the compactor and use of the odor control disk will help reduce odors. The door seals pretty good so, with the disk, odors shouldn't be a problem. I would recommend, however, that a sink disposal be used for most leftovers as this will cut down on possible compactor odors and reduce the amount of trash you have to carry. Answer:
Yes, but you will need to put some type of paper product on top of the leftovers or when the garbage is compressed the food items will make a mess on the compaction arm and then you'll be cleaning it. Also, food items left in the compactor bag too long will begin to smell even though most compactors have an ordor disk or spray.

Answer:
We limit the amount of leftovers we put in the compactor because of the possible odors they can create.
If it's near trash pickup day there's no problem. It's easy to freeze some leftovers and compact them on trash pickup day.

Mel,
Yes, leftovers can be put in our trash compactor. However, there are a couple of points to remember if you do. The first is that you may have to change your odor disk and bag more frequently to keep the smell down, depending on what you put in the compactor. The second is that it is recommended that you put some newspaper on top of the leftovers before you crush to help keep the compacting parts

Glass bottles can make a loud noise when they break during compaction. This is normal. Bottles do not always break during the first cycle. Breaking glass and associated noise may occur several cycles later depending on type and volume of trash. They can cause the bag to break when removing, and there could then be sharp pieces. Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Compactor I've own two other compactors in two different homes and have always enjoyed having a compactor. I recently purchased this one and I must say that it was money wasted. There is no foot pedal to open the draw (which I didn't know prior to ordering.) If you have your hands full of garbage you have to open the door, bend over and pull out the draw, and then deposit the garbage. It has made more work out of throwing garbage away. Also, I must agree with another reviewer - the compaction isn't good. The kick foot (extra) does prevent tipping over. A true disappointment for me with this compactor! This is one purchase I wish I had not made. August 9, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's OK but... The 'stomper' the heavy 'foot' that compresses the trash does not compress it very much. It does some, but the compactor we had in the past really STOMPED the trash. The bags are a special size (almost square), so we think we have to comtinue to buy these expensive bags. The handle is rounded from side-to-side on the front door. We put our unit against the wall (the last cabinet location), and we have problems fully opening the door to open the trash area. So be careful if you are installing against a wall. Also, you have to open the outer black door THEN pull open the trash area to be able to drop your trash into the bag -- 2 steps just to throw out trash. It works OK, and is quiet. August 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty good This is the third trash compactor I've had. It is more powerful than the others but don't think it compresses 6 to 1 as advertised. It's more like 3 or 4 to 1. It was somewhat difficult to add the lower front piece to make it free standing. It has the most powerful motor of all the compactors offered and does a pretty good job. One drawback is having to open the door and the drawer when you have a handful of trash. My other compactors only had a drawer to open. The bags for this unit are expensive which is a negative. All and all I still am happy with this purchase. July 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Watch out for repairs There is a cogged belt drive that causes the ram to work. When a cog on the belt fails the motor will bind causing the machine to fail. The repair is simple. Replace the belt, however, getting to the belt is a mechanical nightmare. The belt is located at the top of the machine above a plate assembly that required the necessity of tearing the entire machine apart to get to it. A simple modification would to have created an access door at the of the outer housing but they failed to do that in engineering. If the belt doesn't fail the machine operates as advertised but my machine has failed twice in 5 years and I have spent over half the cost of the machine in repairs. The other failing of the company is to provide schematics to show how to access the belt. Again, poor planning. Your choice but keep in mind, if humans built it, it will fail. I will be cutting an access door in the top of my machine to give easy access to a damaged belt. February 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Powerful compactor This is the third compactor I've owned and the most powerful. It is also the best. It functions beautifully. Mine is free standing so I got the kickplate to keep it from tipping. The only downside is the cost of the compactor bags which are a little pricy. But the bags never rip, tear or fall down inside the compactor bin as other bags do from time to time, so I guess you get what you pay for... October 8, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by would not buy compactor without foot pedal guides on side of machine don't work well.... difficult to pull all the way out for bag changing. August 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Braun Elite Trash Compactor. The Braun Elite Trash compactor is so much better than ones I have bought previously. Hold much more trash and seems to compact better than the 1/3 horsepower models. I think it's worth the extra money for the extra horsepower. Trash bags are a little too expensive. October 18, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by disappointed Save your seven hundred plus dollars and put your foot in the can this does not compact any better than that. The guys who delivered it didn't even want to carry it in the house they tried to leave it in my drive way if I would have known how lame it was I would have had them take it back. December 12, 2010
