With the fan blades straight up and down, how does this pull the air up into the duct work system? Don't the blades need to be tilted to pull air up (or push it down) as a ceiling fan works?
Asked by: Trudes
The fan creates negative pressure by blowing air into the ducting thus pulling air from the space. For a more detailed explanation, please contact our Technical Support Department at 800-637-1453.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Replacement Motor and Impeller for 659 and 678 Ventilation Fans Model # 202920964 The "2 sones" must have been measured in a building across the street. This fan is loud enough to wake the dead!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect solution to noicy bathroom fan As a homeowner this was my first need to replace a bathroom fan. I was doubtful that I was able to reach the fan from the attic and was figuring I would need to cut out a large section of the vaulted ceiling to replaced the fan. I searched the Homedepot web site to see if HD has the same model. Then I saw the replace motor, which is accessed with removing the fan cover and simply unplugging the motor unit. The new replacement motor made the job super easy and save a ton of time vs. replacing the whole unit. The new replacement motor is quite and I am very pleased.

I actually purchased two of these replacement motor/fan assemblies for two twenty-year old bathroom ventilation fans, which had seen better days. They were relatively easy to install, with only a slight modification in the mounting bracket, and required only the most basic of tools: screwdriver, pliers, a sturdy step ladder, and a steady hand. Once firmly in place and plugged into the fan housing and outlet, the fan assembly performed well and was quieter than the original. Very pleased! John

Outside of the chamber the fan was quiet, yet after installation there was a whistling sound that was irritating. By careful adjustment of the motor unit and turbine to the enclosure the whistling was minimized and all sounded normal. One thing I think would be useful as well would be to offer replacement Coil units for these motors. as this is what ultimately failed. One other thing to home owners is I'd suggested removing the motor from its enclosure and washing it and the enclosure as a maintenance item. I cleaned out lots of guck that might have contributed to the drag and ultimate failure of the coil of the motor. That would have been prevented by regular maintenance cleaning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Save Time and. Money - Just Replace the Motor Generally when the bathroom fan quits after many years, it just needs a new motor. You don't need to spend 3 times the money replacing the whole fan and light. Also, it can be tough finding one to fit the pre-existing opening in the ceiling. When you take it down, you'll find the model # that needs to be ordered. The motor has a plug on it so an electrician isn't needed to wire it in. I ordered it delivered to my local Home Depot, an easy process. It arrived within 3 days. The new motor is much quieter and cost less than $20.

When I bought this product, I thought it would be a perfect replacement for the outdated fan I have. However, it is manufactured just a bit differently and I had to make it work for my bracket. After a while it makes a weird vibrating noise. I have checked it out and there isn't anything rubbing, I think it is just because the larger screw brackets opposite of the stem are not against the frame to make a secure fit. Do not order this product online until you know it will work for your bracket.

I shopped all over specialty stores in Tucson for this little fan motor to replace a 35 year old worn out example in my home. Nobody had anything close. While looking through Home Depot's on line photo catalog, I found the picture above. Looked close, so I ordered it. Came in right away. Was inexpensive so took it home and compared it to the old example. It was only slightly off with the mounting posts a tad smaller diameter. I dug through my jug of stainless steel nuts and bolts and found the correct thread and size for the smaller posts. Made the slight modification, and tightened her down. The spacing was again just slightly off, but not so much so that I couldn't pull it up snug. Mounted it to the old brace and slipped her in. Bingo! A $14.00 repair that without it would have required the entire fan box to be removed and all new apparatus installed. It runs quiet and smooth and keeps my wife the same way. Thank you Home Depot.

It allowed me to repair my existing bathroom exhaust fan without having to buy an entire new unit. Only my original motor needed repair, but I am glad I bought the kit with the motor and the impeller because I had to crack the old impeller in order to remove the old motor.
