With the fan blades straight up and down, how does this pull the air up into the duct work system? Don't the blades need to be tilted to pull air up (or push it down) as a ceiling fan works?
Asked by: Trudes
The fan creates negative pressure by blowing air into the ducting thus pulling air from the space. For a more detailed explanation, please contact our Technical Support Department at 800-637-1453.

Here's the steps: 1) Ensure that the power is turned off. 2) Snap-out the bezel. 3) Remove the light bulb. 4) Remove the cap nut that suspends the cover, and remove the cover. 5) Unplug the fan and the light bulb. 6) Remove the screw next to the outlet. 7) Pull down on the panel that holds the motor/fan assembly. 8) Remove the existing impeller by pulling it away from the motor. 9) Remove the 2 nuts that mount the motor. 10) Install the new parts in the reverse order.

I actually purchased two of these replacement motor/fan assemblies for two twenty-year old bathroom ventilation fans, which had seen better days. They were relatively easy to install, with only a slight modification in the mounting bracket, and required only the most basic of tools: screwdriver, pliers, a sturdy step ladder, and a steady hand. Once firmly in place and plugged into the fan housing and outlet, the fan assembly performed well and was quieter than the original. Very pleased! John

It was an almost exact replacement, the plastic fan is the same diameter, but less than what it replaced. Even though I cleaned the fixture out thoroughly, this replacement fan started making extra noise after about 30 minutes of use and hasn't stopped yet. I would have returned it, but don't want to bother being without the fan for a day nor having to uninstall and reinstall it again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Research first I installed my bathroom fan 30 years ago and lost track of the model number. This replacement motor fits precisely, however it is undersized and the impeller is smaller than the original. I was concerned whether the velocity of the moving air would open the two exhaust one way valves. It does, but the real test will be in the winter when outside air is more dense and the roof valve may have frost or light icing to deal with.

Be aware if this is replacing an older fan assembly: The vendor does NOT include the mounting nuts, and your's are a different size. They will not work. They are 8-32 and this new unit has 6-32 studs. Also, you will need a reamer, as this unit has a larger bearing boss - you will have to enlarge the hole in your mounting bracket. So, if you own a machine shop, no problem; but for the average homeowner - forget about it!

Very easy to install, and it fit in the original housing just like it was supposed to. Actually, the manufacturer said it would not fit. The original dated back to the early 80's. So much easier to spend the $16 or so than to replace the whole unit. The only downside was waiting the five business days for delivery to my local store, but I did avoid delivery charges.

I contemplated replacing the entire fan unit, but figured I'd start with just the motor and impeller. The fan operates like brand new, good suction and very little sound. Start by looking inside your existing fan housing to ensure you're ordering the correct model replacement, it's only a 15 - 20 minute job.
