Customer Questions & Answers

Can you use lava rocks with this grill?

Just bought the grill and was wondering if you can put lava rocks on top of the metal sheet that protects the burners from flare ups?
Asked by: JoshInCLE
Correction to my previous answer - the instruction say do NOT use lava rocks. I don't, and don't notice a difference in flair ups vs. other BBQs that had rocks. It may actually be better.

Does this unit get hot enough to "sear" a steak?

The problem I've experienced in the past with previous gas grills, is they didn't get hot enough to sear a steak or a hamburger for that matter. I'm looking at the reviews for this on here and on other sites and there mostly positive. I was thinking that 40,000 btu's isn't all that much, but for the cooking area size of the grill, it might be ok. I am also thinking of a gas grill with a "sear" feature, but most of what I've found are located in grills much larger in size than this one. Any thoughts?
Asked by: Bill
Yes, definitely. I close the lid, put both burners to max, then when the thermometer hits max (I think 700F) I sear, let cook for 6 minutes with the lid open, and sear the other, and continue.

On the Broil-Mate grill, model 165154, where exactly is the drip container wire hung?

I'm not sure where to place the wire hanger for a (self-supplied) drip can and don't want to find out the hard way where the grease accumulates and drips from. A specific description would be helpful.
Asked by: clueless
There's a hook for a soup can the goes into a hole in the center-back-bottom.

Customer Reviews

Cast Aluminum Reddi-Bilt 2-Burner Propane Gas Grill is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not hot enough I purchased this BBQ yesterday at Home Depot and the reviews looked okay so I purchased it. Very disappointed the heat is distributed evenly but it's not hot enough. Took me forever to cook sausages. I am a steak lover and I fear it won't do a good job because it's not hot enough. Should have spent the extra and purchased one with a higher btu rating. The rack on the top always slips out as well, would not recommend this BBQ

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value - Good Quality I have bought a number of these BBQ's over the last 10+ years for myself or for my kids as they moved out and got there own places. They a real bargain for the price and have excellent quality. The fact they are Canadian made is just another bonus. I have a higher end 3 burner BBQ but it burns through much more propane then this 2 burner. Heat control is great and we use it all winter in our carport. My second son is in the process of buying one for himself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ignitor Issue resolved easily After 9 months, the igniter quit working. When I called the 800 number, I found it a bit frustrating that I had to listen to everything in English and French, but when I got through I was dealt with very professionally. I didn't even need to return the "faulty" parts and she was having new ones sent out at no charge. Quite impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome BBQ We got this BBQ for a wedding gift 8 years ago when we were married. We have moved twice since and have taken it on different occasions to events and has held up surprisingly well - not perfect, but well. I am a believer in quality barbecues for even heat distribution and good temperature capabilities. For an extremely inexpensive BBQ you won't find a better one. I did not, however, need to assemble. Over the last couple of years the starter broke (probably by my own fault - wire fell out) and the grills have gotten kind of gross. I just tried to fire it up for the first time this spring and it didn't start - could even be the propane tank. I think I am going to head to Home Depot tonight and buy another one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well! Instructions a bit lacking I've used it twice so far and it works fine. Heats up nice. The inside of the handle I guess gets a bit warm but nothing major. My only grips is with the instructions: they had nothing on connecting the ignition wire to the starter so I just had to figure it out, and they actually are wrong for putting the handle on: the handle for this barbecue only requires two screws, but the instructions say it requires four screws, and two of them are "Part 74" - but the "Part 74" screws are used in putting on the triangle covers on the corners. So that was a bit confusing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome value I've used this BBQ a handful of time and have been quite impressed with it's performance. Assembly was straightforward and I was able to build it without a second person. It will reach 600F during preheat and cooks food evenly. I rub a bit of oil on the grills before and after cooking which prevents food from sticking and protects the cast iron. I would definitely recommend this to a to anyone looking for a simple BBQ that performs well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lengthy process to put together Definitely would not recommend any barbecue that doesn't come pre-assembled. Doesn't make sense to spend a couple of hundred of dollars, plus HST, only to come home and spend 2 hours or more putting it together. Two of the pieces don't fit and the instructions are less than friendly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid value! This is a good BBQ for the money. The BBQ has a fairly even heat distribution and the bowl, cover and grills are sturdy. However, there were some problems: 1. I agree with other reviewers that the instructions are awful - assembly took far longer than it should have (and involved a lot of cursing :). The four cotter pins were not included so I had to be creative and use bent nails instead. 2.The igniter does not work. (It seems every BBQ I've purchased over the years has had a wonky igniter so I've long ago resigned myself to using a butane lighter to start BBQs.) 3. The warming rack kept slipping out of the holes until I fashioned clips to keep it in place.
