Product Overview

The American Originals 5/16 in. product collection is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional 3/4 in. solid hardwood floors and is proudly made by Bruce right here in the USA (Beverly, West Virginia). Made in a thinner 5/16 in. structure, these floors use approximately 50% less raw material than traditional 3/4 in. solid products giving you the same beautiful, solid hardwood visual and performance with some truly unique advantages compared to 3/4 in. thick options. Unlike most factory-finished hardwood floors which have a bevel along the upper edges and ends of the floor, the American Originals 5/16 in. thick solid product from Bruce features a Square-edge, Square-end profile. Unique in the industry from Bruce, this gives you much more of a traditional sand-and-finish or site-finished visual with all of the advantages of a heavy-duty, factory-applied finish. And, because these floors come in the low-profile 5/16 in. thick format, they can be installed using either a staple-down or glue-down method and don’t dramatically increase the height of your finished floors. In addition, unlike most traditional 3/4 in. solid floors, they can be glued-down directly to concrete subfloors (see Installation Instructions for full details).

Do you offer bullnose pieces for ledges? Can't seem to find any on the HD website. Also, what about transition pieces?

This was a perfect choice when I decided to remove my carpet but could not use a 3/4 hardwood flooring. The Natural Oak is a nice light stain and the wood has just enough character without being too busy with drastic contrast in the grain. The 5/16 was the perfect height for the molding under my balusters. It is beautiful because it is truly wood rather than layers of engineered wood. I used it in my upstairs and downstairs and love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bruce hardwood I had to replace 1/3 of my 15 yr old floor in dinING room. Couldn't find any 5/16 hardwood as now is usually 3/4 thick. Found Bruce on website...Ordered & it mostly matches. Work to install but doable. I am very pleased!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Demo2 I like the flooring, however it didn't look good in the kitchen. After half the floor was done, I took it up/sand & stained my old floor. I plan to use the wood in another project, later. Good buy / not good for the kitchen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Floor This has a better grain pattern than engineered oak floor, and will be able to be resanded someday if we want to refinish it. I've installed both, and this has more strength than engineered if something is dropped in it. It amost exactly matches some solid oak flooring we had resanded and refinished last year. However, this is pretty expensive flooring compared to alternatives, even 3/4 prefinished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely satisfied The "flooring" arrived before the expected date in good shape. We were trying something new. We needed a new door in the front of the house because the veneer was coming off even though the door was in relatively good shap for 50 years of use. We decided to try "veneering" using this 5/16" hardwood. The deep russet oak was a perfect, rich color and placed on the door looked rich and beautiful. We put 3 coats of polyurethane on it for protection from the elements and it added a richer quality as well. Very satisfied!
