Customer Questions & Answers

how is the flooring nailed down

Asked by: Ric
This flooring is nailed down with a 2" staple using a pneumatic gun. This gun runs along the tong edge of the board inserting staples every 6". My wife and I have installed this flooring in three of our last houses. To keep the project moving quickly my wife was able to layout the boards and run the gun while I made the cuts. Another words you can do it yourself but having someone else you can work with makes the job go that much better. The instructions tell you that a 3/4 sub floor is required to properly anchor the 2" staples. You also need to consider the transition to your flooring that you are matching up to when thinking about your sub floor elevation. We used a table saw and a compound sliding miter saw to make all cuts exact. I have also had to use a jig saw, reciprocating saw to cut under door trim/jam, finish pneumatic nail gun. Never use a hammer directly on the tong of the flooring to get it in place, take a cut piece of the flooring to use with a hammer to get in place. Have a good plan before starting the project not one you will want to rush to complete.

I am looking to install Wolf Run Oak in a virginia beach home with underfloor radiant heating system.

What is the janka of the Wolf Run Oak? Manufacture of heating system recommends a janka of over 1375. I cant seem to find the janka for the Wolf Run Oak. Thank you.
Asked by: Bill
FYI, I would not recommend this product for you, I had to stand on some of the boards just to get them to fit, and hammer them. This might cause damage to your heating.

American Vintage Scraped Fall Classic 3/4 in. T x 5 in. W x Varying Length Solid Hardwood Flooring (23.5 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 66.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really nice floor...Great value! Installed 780sq ft throughout the first floor. Really looks great. My only suggestion: Since some boxes have a different lot #, you may want to open boxes and mix up the pieces you're installing. We got through the first part of project with the same lot # not knowing there was a difference in the shading of wood with other boxes that had different lot #. I thought they were from the same lot because we purchased the wood at one Home Depot location. Overall, you really can't tell but if I were to do it again, I'd mix them up and check out the lot #'s. At 5.19 sq ft, you'd be hard pressed to find a 5 in plank at a flooring store for this price. Most flooring stores started at 6.99 sq ft. Hope this review helped if you're considering this product.

This flooring is beautiful, but we were really disappointed because there were mostly short pieces in the boxes. We first installed this in our Master Closet a few months ago and it looked great. We had an extra box left over so we bought 10 more to do our Master Bedroom. We just finished installing it and are so disappointed in how choppy it looks. There were very few long pieces in the 11 boxes we had. Most pieces were about 12-16 inches long. We were hoping to do our entire 2nd floor with these hardwoods, but now we aren't sure what to do. Be aware if installing in a large room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for a great price! After doing a TON of research on flooring we were on the fence between bamboo, hardwood, and pergo. We were drawn to the bamboo for its Eco friendliness, but after reading about all the chemicals used to make it we were hesitant. Next came the idea to use pergo. We considered it for its derability and price. To be honest we didn't think we could comfortably afford hardwood. With 5 kids and 2 dogs it's hard to spend a lot of money on an item that you're afraid will get destroyed within a couple of years. However, we purchased 1000 sq.ft of the American vintage scraped fall because it was real hardwood and on sale for an unbelievable price (similar to bamboo and pergo). Finally, a hardwood floor that we could not only afford but that we loved! Installation was fairly easy once you get the right equipment. We made sure our boxes-all 37 of them were from the same lot for consistency purposes. This particular wood is suppose to seem a bit warn. It is handscrapped after all. We dont have any serious color differences between boards and there was a great variety between sizes ranging from 10-80 inches in length. The finished product is awesome. It has added warmth and character to our home. It's not your run of the mill hardwood. Each piece is just a bit different which is what we wanted. We're glad we made the purchase.

Keep in mind this is a product made from 2nds. There is a large coloring difference, stain color is not at all uniform. Product also has many wood imperfections, lots of knots. Very rough surface from the scraping process combined with knots. Will probably "pull" on socks. Customer was expecting rustic, when we first opened the boxes, they were a little hesitant, but now that it is in they love it. Please note, is almost always unavailable online- go to store, they can push the order through- Bruce makes it quickly once there is an active order.

Like the product it looks very nice versus the engineered stuff and laminate, only problem I had was when the product was delivered at least half of the boxes I purchased where opened and re-taped or damaged in some other way . Ended up having to purchase 3 more cases due to the fact that a lot of pieces where missing or totally unusable, When I placed my order they added the 10% additional for waste and rounded up to the next case. Guess when you want to purchase buy it at the store and rent their truck to get it home, it is cheaper than having to purchase additional material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product Pun intended. This solid oak floor was consistent across 6 boxes, from a color, quality, straightness, and usability standpoint. They say to expect some wastage, don't fret too much over that, as the quality really is very good. DO take the time allow the boards to acclimate to your room, as this also allows you to plan out which length will go where. The randomness of the lengths inside each box allows you to have no pattern when laying it out, as long as you take the time plan the lack of pattern. Hope that makes sense. The knots, small bumps, slight color variations, etc makes the whole room the focus, not the individual boards. Great product, would recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from **** HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!! **** I loved the product but customer service was HORRIBLE!! There were about 2 boxes worth of useless material that I thought they would like to know about and I thought they would do something. We'll they say that it falls under their regulations of 5% material that you are expected to have left as uninstalable. I'm afraid that their 50 year warrantee is also false because I just paid over $200.00 on useless material. Don't believe their 50 year warrantee. They really need to work on their customer service. I cannot believe they expected me to spend $500.00 (5% of materials) extra for USELESS MATERIAL. I could not be more disappointed. I will never recomend ANY products from this company. Worst purchase of the year. Extremely disappointed and upset with the company.

Putting it in bedroom, living room, kitchen and hall. The only problem is about 1/3 of the product has defects. Deep gouges, and knote holes were the main problems. I would never order this product again do to the poor quality and even though Home Depot has no problem with returns it is a hassle reboxing and returning it. My only request would be to the manufacturer to stop putting poor quality product in a top quality wood and improve their quality control process. Best regards
