The price listed on Bruce's Hickory "Autumn Wheat" solid hardwood flooring for AHS478 is $4.69 per sf. The price listed for the same item at the Mechanicsburg. PA store as a special order is $4.19. If I order directly though the internet can I get it at the lower price?

Does the wider width(3 1/4") of the hickory Autumn wheat solid hardwood seem to have more issues with "bad boards" compared to the 2 1/4" wide

Looking at the solid hardwood flooring and concerned that the reviews often mention bad boards in the bundles. Have hickory in my house and know it is a very tough wood to work with and wondered if there was less twisting in the narrower planks? Also noticed that the wider width (3 1/4) has a 30 year finish warranty as compared to the (2 1/4') with 25 year - why the difference?

Answer:
The width of the board should not have an impact of the quality of the hardwood. As far as the warranty goes on the finish, there is not definitive answer as to the manufacture reason of having different warranty time. Those types of things are set up by the marketing team of the manufacture.
I hope this information is helpful.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quality The installed floor is beautiful and was an excellent value so top marks on both accounts. This type of floor is not for the DIY unless there is a good level of experience going into the project. The quality of pieces overall was average. Of the first 18 cases we ordered we returned a total of 3 cases due to flaws, warping, and damaged tongues and/or groves. So we ordered 4 more and returned one of those. We had enough lead time to do this and not set our project back. Yet if the flooring had arrived two days ahead of installation to acclimate I am sure that a lot of inferior pieces would have been used. November 19, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by autumn wheat we put this in master bdrm and hall. used the 10% waste rule and came out prrfect. 1 box of damaged product mostly due to forklift accident. longer boards had some warping but we're usable. overall we are happy with results. price was very good. pic loads upside down. April 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking flooring, but pay close attention to each board! I agree with ordering 10% more as each box contains dinged boards, missing tongues or most importantly boards that are milled 1/16-1/8 short (width). The problem is if you don't catch that early your next row has a gap that a floor nailer can't close. Now to the good, the flooring is beautiful. It has WAY more variety than I anticipated. Many boards have dark streaks in them which make for good accent pieces. The wood is very hard and at times stubborn to get parallel with the nailer. That being said, great value and I would buy this product again without question. December 6, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The variation in the wood color was expected. It made the placement on the floor great. The product had great color. However, plan on ordering extra due to warping on the long pieces and spotting on the top coat. May 2, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by We finished installation yesterday. This is a good choice for a remodel. I enjoy the rich color and variation of the hickory. I would enjoy the finished floor more if I had examined each piece CLOSELY before nailing it down. There are some width variations that were unexpected and unattractive. I would also appreciate having access to a product to repair scuffs and such, but Bruce could only say that I should go to my local paint store and ask them to make a custom stain match. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice floor for the price Nice floor for the price , I installed 1500 sq ft and took my time selecting the lengths in order to reduce waste (less then 10%). February 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful flooring at a great price After shopping for hardwood for a couple of years, I found the Bruce 3/4" solid hickory in autumn wheat. The stain on this floor allows for the color variances in the hickory to show beautifully without the stark differences apparent in natural stain. The color is warm and goes well with all types of furniture stains due to the variance of color within individual boards. The variance also creates interest without being distracting. The finish has been very durable, and the price of this flooring at Home Depot was about $3 a square ft less than similar products from other retailers. We have had this floor for over two years and still love it. December 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bruce Hickory Autumn Wheat 3/4 in. Thick x 3 1/4 in. Flooring The flooring looks good. The install was a bear at times due to boards being warped length wise. It became time consuming to get them back in line. There also appeared to be more than a fair share of short pieces, (12 inches or less). I also had an issue with some of the boards not being exactly the same width. This required some extra work to keep the gap closed between boards. December 26, 2012
