Does this floor require any undergarment of any kind?

Asked by: Anonymous
Do you mean underlayment? I put this product on concrete subfloor. I used an adhesive with a moisture barrier right on the concrete.

Does anyone know if this a smooth finish or if the grain shows some depth?

We are trying to match an existing wood floor in our home, that has visible grain depth.. We def want to continue this through out with the new floor. Can anyone tell me is this particular floor has grain depth?
Asked by: Anonymous
Bruce gunstock has some depth of grain but it is not as deep as the same named product we had installed many years ago.

Not hard to install, just a little messy with the glue if you're not careful. The factory finish is beautiful. In the areas with little to no traffic, it still looks like new. In light traffic areas, it still looks very good. There are only a couple small places where the glue did not hold well. Our 40 lb dog has scratched it quite a bit in some areas because we play with her in the house - enough that the scratches may have gone past the 1/8 inch hardwood top ply. They say you can sand it once, but I've never done it. Overall, I've been happy with this floor, but here are the cons: I personally would prefer a different installation, rather than glue down, due to the difficulty with replacing worn pieces, not because of the quality of the floor. Every time a spill occurs, remove it as quickly as you can. If it sits on the finish for half a day (if you didn't notice the spill or doggy 'accident'), it will damage the wood and finish (it causes ridges on it). Multiple dog urine 'accidents' in the same spot will darken the wood significantly over time, and it won't come out. Because the floor + glue added 1/2 inch height, I had to cut all my interior doors down, including closet doors, upon replacement. I glued this over an un-restorable terrazzo floor and often kick myself for doing that, because removal is difficult. The glue used for this was a strong adhesive. Had a water pipe break and a bedroom floor was ruined. Hired professionals and it took them 2 full days to get the floor up in one 11x12 room.

LKP, i think you are confusing some other type of 3/8" thick by 3" wide engineered Brucel Oak flooring with the Lock&Fold variety. The latter is not a tongue and groove design. I have used the Bruce Lock&Fold 3/8" by 3" Natural Oak Flooring all through our home with very satisfactory results. It is superior to flooring like Pergo because it is stronger as it is basically a 5 layer plywood where the top layer is pre-varnished. I would recommend this flooring as it is cheaper than other flooring which is usually a base layer of some composite material with a thin top plastic layer which gives it the color and texture.

It was advertised in the specs as a click-lock floating floor. It IS NOT a click-lock floor. It is only a "tonge-in-groove" floor. If you want to float the floor onto an underlayment material, you have to glue EVERY joint, otherwise it will have separation issues after installation and after foot traffic. I promptly returned the product to the store. Glad I only bought 1 case to evaluate the product. It is not carried in the store and you have to order it online. After explaining the issue with the folks in the flooring department, a refund was issued without any problem.

This material was purchased to replace damaged existing hall flooring of the same material. Since this particular product has been out of stock for more than a year, I ordered more than needed in order to cover future contingencies. I ordered using the exact information and mfgr's codes from the original batch. The replacement flooring was professionally installed. The color of the new material is very inconsistent (much lighter) compared to the original installed 4 years ago. And the finish is entirely different (much more 'matte'). Now deciding whether to apply a new finish coat using tinted urethane to attempt a match to the original flooring sheen/color. More work... All in all, very disappointed.

The older stuff is of higher quality and has a much better finish on it. I was disappointed. If I hadn't had to match the color of what I had before, this would have been returned. It was easy to lay and the general appearance is decent, but I am one who looks closely. That view is not so good.

The flooring was good quality except for a couple of boards with incomplete grooves on the edge and some small edge chips. But overall I was satisfied. I installed about 150 square feet of this flooring with an 18 gauge stapler that I purchased from HD also. The finished floor looks great!
