how do you figure the sq. feet of your room

Asked by: shell
The square footage of a room is calculated by multiplying the length in feet by the width in feet. You can also calculate it by multiplying the length in inches by the width in inches and dividing by 144.

Plano Marsh 3/4 in. Thick x 3-1/4 in. Wide x Random Length Solid Hardwood Flooring (22 sq. ft. / case) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 146.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from just so so product Bruce hardwood flooring is not high quality in manufacturing and quality control aspect. We had a hard time installing 1000 sqft of this flooring. They were not machined accurately. Many of them are 1/16" smaller or bigger than others, so you would have gap in between, and we had to switch pieces and trash many of them. Also so many pieces have no tongues or poorly machined tongue so they could not lock in each other. Furthermore, there were a lot of pieces with big holes and they were just simply coverd with wood filler and colored and passed. Those are trashed. We should have gotten a better product elsewhere. The manufacturing and quality from Bruce is just so poor.

Our contractors had a terrible time installing these floors. They said they would NEVER use Bruce products again. The boards would not fit together well and our floors are now full of unsightly gaps. The floor was installed in October. Since the weather has cooled and the boards have become more dry, the gaps just keep getting bigger and bigger. We followed instructions and let the boards sit in the house for over two weeks before install. We feel like we wasted several thousand dollars and are going to have to replace the floors. Just awful!

For the very reasonable cost, it is great 3/4 inch solid wood flooring. Quite a bit of waste as some boxes have a lot of flawed pieces, but we bought quite a bit and were able to use about 3/4 of what we purchased. We cut out flaws on ends and used for beginning pieces which helped. Also, we didn't mind some flaws for a rustic/natural look and only left out the pieces with very dark color or streak. There are a lot of dark streaks that detract from the overall beauty of the golden brown color. What we did not use was because of this odd coloring. If you want very clear perfect flooring, you might be disappointed with this product.

It is relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for. Several pieces were bowed or had a decent crook one way or the other, or had missing tongues, or chips in the face. In each box, there were at least 3-4 pieces which were not usable, unless cut to fit thus removing any imperfections. I installed it myself with a friend who has been doing flooring for 20 years. He said its not the worst he has ever seen, but he steers people away from Bruce products. He does not like having to install it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love our new floor! We had this floor installed (via HD) in our living room. The floor looks beautiful. The installers did a fabulous job, taking their time to make sure the variation of the wood pieces meshed well. We bought 16 boxes, laid over a new plywood subfloor with an insulator in between the plywood subfloor and the hardwood. The variation of the wood grains are so interesting and have a ton of character. The quality of the wood is excellent. We didn't have any issues with broken pieces but we did have an extra box so when we got to the end we weren't left with a bunch of small pieces to finish the job. I couldn't be happier with our new floor. The only thing I wish is that we would have done it a long time ago!! I don't miss my old carpeting at all! The installers were absolutely wonderful, they were on time, professional, and take pride in the work they do. Bob and his team are truly the best!

I am working with the the 3 1/4 stuff now and much better..... very few mistake boards but still enough to make it a pain, but still recommend this size board by this company

Many bowed, warped, crowned, twisted, whatever term one would chose to use. Saved them thinking we could cut them to reduce the abnormality but even in a closet they created an issue when it came to installing them. My partner and I decided that possibly H/D had ordered lumber that was not graded as #1 but possibly sold what might be classified as seconds or #2 quality in order to offer them at a reduced price. ??? Many boards came with missing portions of tongues, imperfections on the face, or machine handling impressions on the face. Glad we ordered 10-15% excess to allow for "scrap" which I paid full price for. Boxing was also an issue. Some boxes would contain 70-80% 'long boards' then the next box would be 80% shorts (8" to 30"). Solution was to open 3-4 boxes at a time to get the variety needed to install. Took up a lot of space.

I expect that is why there are many pieces of wood that are unusable. During installation, it is good to have a long metal level to place next to the pieces. Some boards are slightly bowed and can be straightened as nailed, but some are not worth the effort. The finished floor definitely shows a few places where the boards weren't perfect. Overall it looks ok. I was able to piece together 3 cases of wood from 12 to be returned for defects. Many boards come without tongues or barely a tongue. boards also come without the bottom portion of the groove if the cut was on a bark line that falls off. I only stuck with this brand because one room was already completed in it. Like I mentioned, patience and willingness to be picky selecting boards to use will pay off. I did like that the wood is pre-finished. No sanding, staining or varnishing. One room has floors that are 2 years old and look just as good as the new ones.
