Answer:
The boxes vary, there are some boxes with small boards about 16" long, but there are enough long boards (up to 6'6" long) to use in more visible locations. I was able to hide small pieces as the first piece, and in places with less visibility.

Plano Oak Saddle 3/4 in. Thick x 5 in. Wide x Varying Length Solid Hardwood Flooring (23.5 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not 23.5 square feet The product is very good. But.... out of the 15 boxes that I purchased, there was not one single board that was 7 feet long. The average seemed to be around 4 feet. The other issue is the stated square footage per box. Since every packaged row did not extend to the 7' mark, there is not 23.5 square feet. Figure about 21 square feet per box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Choice We had this installed by an installer we found as we had a platform bed coming and needed to install without delay. Two installers completed our master bedroom within 3-4 hours and it looks great. It also virtually eliminated the squeeks we had as it is 3/4" thick and our home was built in the 50"s.

Just this floor on entire first floor (900 fq ft) during a major renovation Really happy with finished product -- the wide plank is a nice look, and conveniently, it goes down twice as fast as strip! Seems tough as nails too. Yes there is some variation with darker and lighter boards, but overall I think that's desirable and part of a natural wood floor. If you want a perfectly uniform look for go for a laminate! Of the almost 40 cases, we discarded maybe 10 pieces for width variation or excessive knots or other defects. 1 in every 4 boxes is pretty darn good. Seemed about par for distribution of short/long pieces. Just remember to consistently mix them in, and save others for closets, and you're good to go. Highly recommend :)

Out of the 16 cases I installed I ended up with one case with wood I did not want to use because of color match or knots This is typical of Bruce hardwood. The best thing a I liked about this product is that I did not get any warped boards. The 5" boards worked great. My last two floors I use 3 1/2" boards several were warped.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Manufacturer shipped us wood marked as bad When we got the 5" wood it was crayon marked as bad wood yet we were shipped this batch anyway. Some boards were different widths and would not even fit properly. Installer recommended 2.5" wood instead as it has more flexibility to fix issues.

Different lot numbers may have been the reason! A lot of boards were unusable because of knots with holes and way to many short pieces

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardwood Flooring We did not install the flooring ourselves as it was a part of our home renovation. Watching the work being done, I heard no complaints from the workers. The floor is just beautiful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from too many short pieces Some pieces have off square cuts. Some cracks on end of boards, very few knots and several broken tounges. Nice looking finish.
