I was not expecting a "Master Woodworker" product but was hoping for at least average. Well NOT ... The cutting edge of every tool but one was not square. The cutting edges were not evenly sharpened and the finish machining of the back of the cutting edges was really rough. Surely not made to slide easily behind the cut being made by the cutting edge. The overall quality of the steel I cannot speak to as I have not yet got to use them over a period of time. The handle to tool melding seems solid and looks like it will hold up. I do now have 6 tools with very nice square, sharp and polished edges. About 2 hours with a diamond file and a set of Arkansas Sharpening stones made that possible. If you are wanting a set of tools you can use right out of the "Blister Pack" to do good clean work this set is not for you. If your building a tree house - maybe. Quality control does not seem to be one of Buck Brothers strong suits.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not great I bought these for a project I was working on, where I needed to carve down about 3/16 of an inch into cherry wood to insert a leather carving. I ended only being able to use the flat blade, which worked very well. It even tolerated being hit with a hammer. It could have been 5 stars, except that the edge started to have little knicks, even though it was hitting only wood (no nails, staples, etc.). I don't know if I'll ever need the others, but if I do, they'll be ready. The flat blade worked much better than a regular chisel.

But these carving tools were dull right out of the sealed package. I had to sharpen each one before use. I have bought their wood chisels and did not need to sharpen them before first use. One chisel I have never sharpened. So I don't understand why these were dull. I still recommend them, but you might have to sharpen them before you can use them.

Tools are not sharp (not enough to carve hardwood) and my efforts to sharpen a couple of them did not make them as sharp as they should be. May be the steel is inferior quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharpen up They work well, I just think they could come out of the box a little sharper. That would help reduce the amount of force needed and improve precision
