I hate sharpening a chain by hand and over time the bevel gets skewed and becomes useless. I saved over twice the cost of the device the first use by reconditioning four chains. It took a few minutes to figure out how to best use it; the directions were virtually useless. However, once set up, it took only a few minutes to sharpen a chain... much, much faster than doing it by hand. Have now developed the routine of switching chains with each gas refill and then sharpening all four chains in one setting. A perfect device for those of us who have a lot of trees to cut but few lumberjack skills.

The chain guide took a little to get used to. I think it was just a learning curve. works fine now.

A little hard to understand directions but after doing the first 2 links it was easy to sharpen the rest of the chain. A DVDs would have been helpful. It did a good job on sharpening the blade.

Great product and seems to hold up to normal wear and tear. Sharping stone is adjustable to accommodate the cut of the teeth on your chain. The price is right for the avg. homeowner.

Absurdly hard to use and does not properly sharpen a saw blade. Requires you to remove the saw blade from the saw, position each saw tooth in the sharpener in exactly the correct position, lock it in, then bring the sharpener to the tooth so that a small portion of the tooth gets sharpened. Then you must turn off the machine, unlock the tooth, move the chain to the next tooth and repeat the process. It's much, much faster to use a good quality hand file. And much cheaper. Only carries a 30 return, so I couldn't get my money back because I had delayed trying it out. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Sharpener was easy to set up and easy to use. After years of hand sharpening my chainsaws I finally have "like new" sharp chains from the electric sharpener instead of "just sharp enough" from hand work. I gathered up all my old chains and sharpened them all. Once again they produce large chips and curls of wood, something you see only from brand new chains.
I bolted the sharpener unit to a 1x6 board that I can clamp to any work surface. It takes about 20 minutes start-to-finish to sharpen a chain.

Pros; Motor is quiet, on/off buttons are well located for the left hand. Sharpens well. Light enough to hold the front up in the air while grinding to see how much is being removed and the arm has enough give in it, to move it, with some left hand pressure, to move the grinding wheel across the entire edge of the lower portion of the cutting edge.
Cons: Not table mountable unless you drill holes in the table. Bolts for mounting not supplied. Chain stop arm is flimsy. This is the third sharpener I have used and the most difficult to operate of the three. The arm has no hold down strap so it takes more storage space.

This sharpener paid for itself the first week I owned it. I keep 2 chains for my saw and every time I finish a use, I clean my saw and sharpen the blade. This way I always have a sharp chain on the saw. I have sharpened each chain at least a dozen times each. Without this sharpener, I would have already spent at least 3 times that price of the sharpener on new chains. I should have bought this years ago.
