Answer:
If you refer to the rough in dimension on Johnsons website you will see they recommend 2x the door width plus 1". I have found this to be true. We have even added 2" on occasion.

How good are you with hand tools and woodworking? The normal rough in height is about 85", width would be 64" - twice the door width.
Yes, the bottom edge of the frame can be trimmed off and re-framed to support it. However, working under the 80" ceiling your finished door opening would only be 74-75 inches. Me personally, I'd be hitting my head when I walk through the door.

If you can go into the attic space a bit and install the frame as it is, without trimming, then your door height will be your ceiling height and I think that would look a lot better.

Answer:
You should have no problems with a solid core door. I would add some screws to the header of this frame to make sure it does not sag over time.

What thickness door slab will this frame handle? Can it accept a 1-3/4" thick door or is 1-3/8" the maximum thickness. This type of BASIC info should be included in the description and specs--as well as, a downloadable version of the installation instructions (i.e., PDF)! ;-) Lol

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by installation simple and straight forward .required a little trimming of a couple of horizontal battens but overall a solid product. 4.8 October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It worked for me Pocket doors require a certain level of patience and experience as I found out… I was able to get through the installation. However, after it was all said and done, I think I would have been happier framing an actual door in. This is because the pocket door frame (and wall it supports) flexes too much for my taste. Just a general heads-up about pocket doors, the frame has to be built with fairly thin lumber to fit within a 3-1/2” wall which means there will be some flex to the wall. October 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product. My only complaint about this door was that the instruction manual was incorrectly fastened to the frame, whereby they screw a bracket over the plastic bag with the manual and fasteners. You're supposed to tear the bag off but the manual was screwed under the bracket as well, which destroyed it. Thank goodness they put the instructions on the outside of the cardboard packaging. It's actually pretty easy to install also, so that helped too. Otherwise, no complaints and it looks very nice. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Get a new vendor for this product I ordered this product from Home Depot because it looked to be better quality than Lowe's was offering. When it arrived to the store in Hickory, NC, I went to pick it up. It was constructed with such poor quality of wood that I refused it, they credited my account, called the vendor, told the vendor the issue, reordered the pocket door system and they gave me a small discount for having to wait another 10 days for the door system and they gave me free delivery to my home. When the new reordered pocket door system arrived, the bag containing the hardware to install the door was broken and all the hardware was missing but one small piece. The header/track system was constructed/manufactured incorrectly and door system came damaged due to poor freight handling by the freight carrier. I called the store to notify them of the issues. I told the Home Depot rep that I was speaking with that I needed the door system and I was going to try to fix the damage so I could use it and reconstruct the header/track system so it was correct to be able to get the rough framing done for installation. I was given a 25% discount and I had to work on the pocket door system 3-4 hrs to fix it so I could use it and now wait again for the vendor to send the hardware for the door. With all of these issues I had to deal with on this product, Home Depot should have given me the door system free for good customer service relations because of poor manufacturing and shipping practices from a vendor they deal with! I am a retired contractor and have experience in installing pocket door systems. It is pretty bad when a manufacturer can't get their product manufactured correctly and the customer has to reconstruct it to use it, poor shipping methods that does not ensure all parts arrive to the destination! This absolutely does not deserve a better rating than I have given it!!!! August 29, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by pocket door first timer during manufacture couple of staples missed, went out the edge. No directions for assembly of frame. June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not for beginner DIY I changed staples with screws, paid attention at installing it level, and it turned out good. But i can see how it can be frustrating if not doing this on a regular basis. For pros i would say it's good, for diy try another brand. November 7, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the new pocket door. The pocket door does exactly what I wanted it to do. The privacy it provides and the ambiance it adds to the bedroom/bathroom completes the warm feeling of the room. February 4, 2014
