The specs say "Net-Free Area (Sq. In.) 12.228", and I assume that is PER PIECE, and they are 4 feet long so ~3 sq. inches per linear foot. These numbers really don't make any sense though. This would mean that over the whole 40 ft span you only get 122.28 sq. inches, which is LESS THAN 1 SQ FT of ventilation, over the whole ridge?!?!?
I think someone got feet and inches mixed up, or maybe they think 12 Read More

I think someone got feet and inches mixed up, or maybe they think 12 sq. in. = 1 sq. ft.? Something is wrong.
Maybe the manufacturer can chime in here and clear things up... Read Less

Answer:
My roof wasn't metal but I'm sure you can. You would just have to put the metal ridge cap over this ridge vent.

Answer:
You have to cover it with roofing material (shingles), so you don't need to specify a color. Get ridge shingles that match your existing roof and cover with those.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ridge vent instructions leave room for improvement The instructions were not clear on this product. The quality seems to be alright although being a roofing product only time will tell. March 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to work with I needed to have the ridge vent done because the roof was not venting properly and causing all sorts of problems. I called a contractor and they wanted over 1,000.00 just to do the ridge vent. I already had the shingles they basically wanted that for labor. I saw this item while looking for a solution. I read the reviews and watched videos to see how it was installed and decided to order it and fix the ridge vent myself. I was surprised how easy this product was to work with. In one afternoon I was able to remove the old ridge vent shingles, install the ridge vent plus system and put down the new shingles. (about 75 feet is the ridgeline length) so not bad. Shipping was fast and all but one vent section was in good shape ( it looked like got melted at the factory) . It is nice this product is set-up to keep out insects and small animals also. On a side note I had to go to home depot and buy some 2 1/2" roofing nails. The regular size ones I had were to short to go through the shingle, ridge vent and sheeting. I would definity reommend this and would buy this product again. January 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ridge Vent Plus Review They installed easily and met my expectations. They look like they are a good sturdy product and are designed well to keep out water, snow and insects. January 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Comes in a box of 10 but didn't need all 10. They should sell individually. December 23, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It seems to be working. :) We just put them on last week, we have not run into issues yet. September 16, 2014
