Easy to use, not expensive. The only fastener that was the proper color. The problem is that they don't hold up well. Have replaced at least 20 over the past 5 or 6 years because they keep on snapping. Not sure - could be the cold weather in winter that causes them to become very brittle.

A shutter came loose -- the top two fasteners broke.
I had to special order replacements - yuck, 10 day wait.
There are three problems with this fastener --
1. They're pretty flimsy, which means driving them into the wall can be a problem.
2. The way they're ribbed once in (or partially in) you will not get them out. If you make a mistake you MAY be able to drill it out, more likely you will have to drill another hole. This can be a problem. Your fasteners will not be parallel and will look uneven.
3. (Reference #1) Why did the first two fail? These are outdoor shutters. I would expect the fasteners to stand up to the normal pressures of weather change.

Listen, you only buy these when you need them, and they're pretty much the only game in town. You'll have to paint them whatever color you need them to be and then put painter's tape over the head before you bang them in. Make sure you use the primer plus paint or the color will come off when you peel the tape. For what they are, what they cost and what they do, it would be tough to find better.

I was attempting to replace the old ones that broke, but once these are about halfway into the hole, they begin to bend and will not insert any further. I tried everything I could think of, but fighting with these fasteners from the top of a 32 foot extension ladder was becoming dangerous. I'll return these and use reliable concrete anchors. I'll probably save some money.

The old "shutter spikes" became brittle over time (13 years) and some of them broke and needed replacement. The only issue with installing the new "spikes" was getting parts of the old "spikes" out which I solved by drilling into them. The old "spikes" either broke into pieces or pulled out with the drill when I drilled into them and then the new "spikes" pushed into place for a secure fit.

They recommend these to go with the shutters but they came with all you need.

Drill the hole, insert the fastener and use a portable drill to seat. 16 shutters installed in less than a hour with these fasteners without and problem.
