The shutters I bought were to be painted. I used Kilz Complete to prime them and then painted them with Behr Ultra exterior satin finish coat using an airless sprayer. The color we chose was English Channel, a dark blue. They were easy to install with a basic drill. Look and feel just like our existing shutters, which are 16 years old. After a month up and multiple strong thunderstorms they look good and seem to be just fine. They made a big difference in the curb appeal of our 1961 Cape Cod. A good buy for the $32/set.

The fastener to the house is very flimsy and bends easily. I would have preferred a shorter screw to hold it against the house with a cap to cover the screw. However I put up 7 pairs and it looks great. Tough to tell they are vinyl as look very realistic.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DisappointedPSP Cheap plastic junk
These shutters are made of thin flimsy plastic. The included "fasteners" are plastic "bolts" that you shove into a hole you are required drill into the face of the shutters and then into your siding. Therefore the fastener head is right on the front of the shutter for everyone to see and you are required to install 4 to 6 of these per shutter. The fastener is then "not-removable" according to the instructions, and must be "snipped" in order to be removed. If any of this information had been disclosed by this site, I would not have ordered the 5 sets of this junk, but would have found a better quality product. I think these are a waste of hard earned money and will be surprised if they last longer than first strong wind that blows.

I needed some paintable shutters and these are all I could find anywhere. They were easy to install. Interesting mounting screws included with shutters that made it real easy to put them up. They are sort of thin plastic, but should be fine so long as they don't get hit with a branch in a storm.
I would recommend caution when installing. If you use a screw gun, go slowly. They are thin plastic and you could send the screws right through them if you don't pay attention.
