Unfortunately, I had to order these shutters, since no store in town had the paintable ones available in the sizes i needed for this project. I've painted hundreds of shutters to a better than new appearance; but after a little research, I found that the new (unweathered and pre- sun beaten) shutters may not accept paint. The original shutters were peeling and some were broken so it was time for new ones.
So I decided to go with the gray "paintable" shutters. I sprayed them out with an airless sprayer using two coats of my standard paint for shutters, sherwin williams superpaint, satin finish. They accepted the paint very well and adhesion was very good. putting them up went ok. the first one took almost as long as the other eleven, mostly due to operator malfunction. A second pair of hands helps.
They arrived in a timely manner and I think they even included some extra nails, which was helpful since I wrecked a few early on.

Easy to paint and install. Exactly what I ordered. If you can't find a color in stock I would recommend these

These are the second set of shutters we have ordered from Home Depot and installed at different homes. We like bought the paintable ones because we had our own color custom mixed.
The vinyl shutters are definitely not as thick as wood shutters so they much lighter. However, one of our shutters arrived with a dent on the side of it and that just shows how thin the material is. We like that the shutters have a nice faux wood grain to them.
Installation was a little challenging. We had to find the right drill bits for wood siding for one set of shutters and masonry for the other set. Lesson learned: if you don't drill deep enough, the plastic screw will not go in all the way and it CANNOT be pulled out again. We managed to cut the screw in half and dig out the remains from the wall and the shutter. However, once secured, the shutters stay put.
We would buy these again until we could afford to get custom shutters made.

Purchased the paintable shutters. I was impressed how how well they took to painting and they only needed one coat. They look like wood and were easy to install. The only issue I had with them is that I felt the screws that came with them were a bit of overkill for the weight of these shutters. I ended up using smaller screws (attached small blocks of wood with double sided tape in the back) and covered the screws with screw cap covers.

Used a latex-based exterior paint, which went on nicely. Easily installed with existing hardware from the shutters they replaced. One quibble -- a set of nylon fasteners were included with each pair, but no instructions on how to use them. Since these were being put on brick and masonry, I just used metal screws and the appropriate fasteners for the job.

These shutters have the appearance of wood, but are a light-weight plastic of sorts. They painted easily and look great on the front brick of my house. I purchased 2 shutters to replace old ones that had been damaged by flying debris. The other 4 shutters are 6 years old and still going strong.

Well, they took a professional to install and paint. The look is very consistent to what we had before. So overall, I'm satisfied.

I purchased paintable shutters. I sprayed them with an air paint gun and they turned out beautiful. They were easy to install.
