Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Stair Step Scribe Very difficult to get accurate measurements. Tightening the wingnuts does not really lock the sections of the stair scribe since the flathead screws rotate. Depending on the angle the end pieces are after the measurement they can be bumped out of place when trying to remove the scribe from the stairway. You have to be very careful and hope you didn't alter the settings when moving the scribe away from the stairway you are trying to measure. Lucky for me where mistakes occurred I could still use the stair step below the landing where the bottom two steps are 2 inches narrower. March 2, 2015
