Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Pleaaase Save Yourself Basically, if you don't know, this product requires you to strip each individual wire (not a problem) and then clamp it down (big problem). Not only is it a massive pain in the rear to clamp down the stripped wires, but the wires are totally exposed (which in turn means lots of crosstalk). Not only can you not run true Cat5e, but you have a minimum chance of the product truly working. Followed all directions to the T (which weren't too in depth) and I'm now on my 3rd attempt to get it working. I'm giving up, returning, and getting the punch tool so I can do this the right way. Also, if you look up any youtube videos, you will find that there's not a single video for this type of connector. Why? It is not a good product. Save yourself the time and energy and spend an extra couple of dollars for the punch tool. April 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Color Coded to Cat5 Standard Disappointed in this product. This is an RJ-45 (data) plate but it is not color coded properly. An Ethernet/Cat5e connection is comprised of four pairs of wires and they are attached in exact sequence in accordance with the T-568B standards: orange/white, orange, green/white, blue, blue/white, green, brown/white, brown. This is an RJ-45 receptacle but the color coding is for a telephone connection - red, green, yellow, black... August 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Read the instructions... There is more than one way to wire an RJ45 connector. The instructions for both T-568-A and T-568-B are included in the instructions. If you read the pamphlet you will have an easy time. Don't be scared by negative reviews. The quality of the wall plate is acceptable but not the greatest. August 10, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by waste of money This product is incredibly not user friendly, and the wires do not match the color coding on the jack itself. I highly recommend buying another product that is a better quality and easier to install. Furthermore, Home Depot should not carry this product and should hire employees that know what they're talking about. August 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to do. Use common sense. Otherwise - move along... Don't know why others are confused. The pin out/color coding is available right on the product page at Homedepot.com. Shows the three possible codes to follow. Again - it's easy to do - simply put in a low-volt box (if regular box), run the wires, match the colors to the charts, test and close it up. I always spray the back side of connectors with silcon spray to help prevent oxidization - other non-conductive coatings, such as battery terminal spray, or even silicon grease (cheap if you get the tube meant for brakes at your local auto store - use it for everything!) are also excellent to help assure you extend the life of your project. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product not described properly. The product says that it is to be used with Cat5, and Cat5e, but WILL NOT negotiate at a 1 gigabit connection, which does not meet the Cat5e standard. If you are looking for wall plates that will only do 100 mbps or lower, these are fine, but for anything more these will not work. April 14, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Thanks customer service Bought 6 of these to do a side job only to find out the color code is wrong. Contacted Home Depot to find correct pin outs. Pin 1 blue -w/o. Pin 2 orange-o. Pin 3 black-w/g. Pin 4 red-blue. Pin 5 green-w/blue. Pin 6 y-green. Pin 7 brown-w/brn. Pin 8 w-brown. Thanks for the heads up! January 5, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible connection The connection in these wall plates is horrible and led to physical connection issues (despite passing basic cable validation testing). Save yourself the headache and purchase a modular keystone jack and punch down tool. July 15, 2013
