Do they just go in through the wall, or is there some kind of conduit? How does one prevent them from falling into the wall?

Answer:
The line voltage cable is held in with pressure clamps- slide the cable in and it stays. They are plastic tabs.
The low volt signal wires are pass thru the opening. I just loop them over the plate and let them hang. Once you install the tv or other device you can push them into the wall.

Answer:
The romex cable supplying power to the duplex box would have to come from another box; a nearby outlet or a switchplate which has power to the box. Alternatively, you could run a wire from your breaker panel. Remember not to overload a circuit. Wire size 14ga will handle 15amps of current and 12ga will handle 20amps. A 500 watt toaster oven would draw 500/120 or 4.2amps.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Recessed media plate Looks very clean and allows you to hide your wiring. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just What I Needed ! I needed a recessed outlet for power and an in-wall HDMI cable that would allow for a shelf-mounted home theater projector to access power and video. This item fit the bill perfectly. It allowed me to position the projector almost flush with the wall where no cables are visible at all. See my posted images. The projector is an EPSON 3000. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Absolutely Love It I decided to take on hanging my new 55" UHD TV above my fireplace. I wanted a clean look with no wires hidden behind flashing or hanging down to devices. I made the decision to move my devices (cable box, game systems, etc.) to the garage and run all the lines through the attic. I fished everything down but realized that I was going to have 4 different plates to install behind the TV. While I was at The Depot getting some romex for the recepticle install, I just happened to pass by their AV section and saw this product. It looked a little big at first glance, but I figured I would take it home and see how it would measure out with the TV mount. This media plate fit perfectly behind my TV and added a gorgeous, clean look to the wiring. There's plenty of room for wires in the channel that's cut out for routing. I ran a thick CE Tech 25' HDMI cable and Cat-5e through and there is still ample room for more wiring. The kit comes with a template for cutting out the drywall, and secures itselt without any need for additional screws or anchors. All you need to do is push the media plate into the hole you cut out of the drywall (I would strongly recommend a sheetrock saw for this) and then tighten the 4 screws in the corners of the plate. Each screw has a flap that snugs itself to the back of the drywall as you tighten the screw. I have 4 more TVs in the house that I plan on hanging and I will use this product for all of them. I can't say enough good things about this plate! May 19, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Box great, electrical outlet not so great, does what its designed for. Super easy to install, just remember that the outlet is outside the perimeter of the plate so it cant be mounted tight to a stud. The main box quality is very good, sturdy plastic. The electrical box is proprietary and screws to the main box, and the cable clamps could be better. Electrical outlet on mine is not as pictured- my outlet is a push wire ONLY device 15 amps. I replaced with a 20 amp screw connection device.. I do not allow push wire connections So spent another 5 bucks for a suitable outlet. expensive for a molded plastic box, but its a very clean install so...they can charge for it. Leviton had their entertainment box which HD no longer carries that was a bit better on electrical side since it used a standard remodel box with a choice of locations- it didn't have a low voltage chute though.... a combo of the chute with a standard line voltage box would be more to my liking... Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product!!! At first I thought the plate was too big but when I saw how many cords had to pass through it; I realized it was a perfect fit. Fits flush against the wall and the mounting wings do a great job holding it in place. It was easy to wire the 15 amp outlet and I'm glad I have it because it makes it so much easier to plug in the television. Also the fact that the outlet is recessed makes it so the cord isn't pinched up behind the wall. Awesome buy!!! April 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by prederred another I returned this product and purchased a similar one at Lowes because the one at Lowes has a pass thru with brush bristles for the low voltage wires. It's a cleaner look and may have better insulation value January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what the job needed for a reasonable price. This wall plate was easy to install, the directions were easy to follow, and it looks great. Based on my experience, the other reviews of this product are spot on. If you are in the market for a product like this, this is an affordable, easy to use solution. September 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent & Well Worth It Excellent product, easy installation, exactly as described. Just make sure not to cut more than required for good fitment. It's better to cut a smaller hole and then adjust, rather than to cut a larger hole and end up with a loose outlet. Also make sure the nearest stud is at least 2 inches away from the power side of the outlet so that it does not obstruct installing the power outlet. January 12, 2013
