Can this be used to clean the inside of an older (solid state) Am/FM Stereo Receiver, including all the circuit boards switches etc?

Asked by: MLC
Thank you for your question! Yes, as a plastic safe lubricant, 2-26 can be used on stereo receivers, circuit boards, and switches. That said, CRC Contact Cleaner & Protectant may be more suitable in this situation.

Customer Reviews

2-26 5 oz. Multi-Purpose Lubricant is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for model railroads Use of lubricants on Model Railroad track is controversial among modelers. It is a balancing act between better conductivity and reduced traction. I have a DCC system and consistent electrical contact is essential for smooth operations. A few drops of CRC 2-26 on the rails makes for a big improvement. It also helps with unreliable contact between delicate copper wipers and tiny wheels. Products are sold specifically for model railroad use, but in my experience 2-26 works better and is much less expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product at a Fraction of the Cost! My 30-year-old stereo receiver had noisy pots on the volume control. (Annoying static noise whenever the volume knob was turned up or down.) It was going to cost me a chunk to have someone service the unit, so I looked online and found that it was a simple case of lubricating the control knobs. But the stuff to do the job was like $15 a can. Cheaper than having it serviced, but come on, $15 for a can of lube? Then I found this stuff on Home Depot's website. Incredibly inexpensive and absolutely effective. Worked like a charm!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Less Costly Alternative to Deoxit If you use WD40 to clean switches, slides, contacts ect...? The silicone base can cause a salting effecting when in contact with water based solutions like Isopropyl (rubbing) Alcohol. This effect will add resistance. It it also can attack plastics and is flammable. Iso alcohols as in most alcohol products are water based formulas. Depending on the ratio of water in the solution it can cause oxidization and rust to metal parts based on drying time. Deoxit is a fine contact cleaner in many solution forms but very costly. This is an excellent cost prohibitive alternative product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does the job. It lubricates and restores function, even on model train electronics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixes flickering electrical contacts in switches This stuff is great for eliminating flickering lights caused by intermittent contacts. You don't even have to disassemble the switch or contact to make an effective repair. Highly recommended contact lube. The 5 oz size is about right for working on electrical parts, and the nozzle allows fine control of the dispense volume. You can apply just a little where it will do the most good. Great value!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The volume knob of my receiver was a little hard to turn. Enough for the remote control not to be... The volume knob of my receiver was a little hard to turn. Enough for the remote control not to be able to turn it. A good friend who is into electronics recommended that I use "DeoxIT" to clean it. When I searched the Home Depot website I came across this alternative to "DeoxIT" selling at less than 25% its price. As far as I am concerned CRC 2-26 did the job. One tiny drop sprayed directly into the potentiometer and within seconds it was turning smoothly and the remote control was able to move it effortlessly. I never tried the other product but I was happy with the results I got, and only for $2.98 plus taxes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product I farm and have several different machines and vehicles that aren't used for several months through the winter. I spray this product on the battery posts to stop corrosion. It works on my vehicles extremely well. I recommend this product to anyone using battery connections to stop corrosion. I even spray the posts on batteries I use in my rangefinders and flashlights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job. I agree 100% with the previous review. I have a 10 year old NHT sub with a separate amp and the volume pot was a big mess. It was so loud with pops and crackles. It would go from zero to full volume with just a minor twist. CRC 2-26 solved the problem. It works great for electrical jobs on older pots that have become corroded. DO NOT USE CONTACT CLEANER, please.
