Product Overview

CURT front mount trailer hitches allow you to use the front end of your vehicle for various towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, different accessories and can even be used for some towing applications. When space is limited, a front mount hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front mount receiver, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front mount hitch are the step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount and the CURT skid shield. A front mount hitch bolts onto the underside of the vehicle frame just like a rear mount hitch; only, it is placed in the front of the vehicle, providing a useful receiver tube to accept a 2 in. x 2 in. shank. CURT front mount hitches come in towing capacities of up to 3,000 lbs., 3,500 lbs. and 5,000 lbs. and can tow up to 9,000 lbs. for a straight line pull. They are specifically designed to mount on trucks, vans and SUVs. In general, sedans, coupes and other cars do not allow adequate viewing space for safe driving if a front mount accessory were to be attached.

Questions & Answers

Is this hitch receiver inter changable between a F150 & F250?

Asked by: tim
According to the installation instructions, this hitch will fit 2009-2014 Ford F150s. You can check the Curt website (http://www.curtmfg.com/) to find the model hitch that fits your F250. Home Depot sells most Curt hitch models.

Placed order on Monday and it arrived from the manufacturer on Thursday via UPS with free shipping. Home Depot was very accurate with their estimated delivery date. Instructions are very straight-forward, including color photos with each step of the installation. Total installation time from start to finish was approximately 45 minutes. I was working alone on the installation and used my hydraulic floor jack to raise the hitch into place and hold it there while I completed the installation using the included hardware. The hitch weighs 45+ pounds and has a very snug fit on the frame and the hydraulic jack made easy work of lifting/sliding it into place - even if I had another set of hands helping, there would have been some wrestling involved to get the hitch into its final position - if you have access to a hydraulic floor jack, consider using it for this purpose. No drilling required at all as the hitch uses the existing holes in the truck's frame. Included in the hardware kit are two fishwires for the two 5/8"x2" carriage bolts - VERY necessary and easy to use to fish the 5/8" carriage bolts thru a hole on the opposite side of the box frame into the hole that aligns with the rear mounting holes on the hitch. No fishing required for the 1/2"x6" front mounting bolts - mounting bolts can be passed thru the existing holes from one side of the box frame to the other. The instructions state that it was necessary to remove the lower air dam as well as notch out the front bumper fascia for the box end of the receiver on 2011 and newer trucks . HOWEVER, on the 2014 Expedition, there is no lower air dam and the front bumper fascia does not extend low enough to interfere with the hitch. Since this model hitch also applies to 2009-current Lincoln Navigators and Ford Expeditions as well as 2009-2014 F-150s, this "modification" may be necessary on other models/model years, but not to the 2014 Expedition. Overall, this is a high quality product and installation was simple.
