Will this work with a smart thermostat that requires a C wire?

Many smart thermostats require a C wire to provide power to the thermostat in addition to the R and W wires to control the heater (or relay in this case). I didn't see where this product has that capability.
Asked by: Shblende
Thanks for your question, Shblende. The 5 KW 240 volt relay will work with most wifi thermostats, but it would be best to contact the manufacturer of the wifi thermostat you plan on using for further technical and wiring questions. Most remote wifi thermostats, such as the Nest, are low voltage controls and require a relay to convert the low voltage wifi thermostat to a line voltage thermostat. In most cases you will need one controller per heater. So it can get complicated and expensive to control our heaters this way. This technology is still evolving with line voltage controls and unfortunately we do not have a remote thermostat at this time. If you went this route, the manufacturer of the controller would have the best instructions on installation.

This relay will work with 60 or 50hz?

Asked by: Sebas
Thank you for your question. This relay will work with 50 or 60 Hz, however if the relay is being used with Cadet products they are only rated for 60 Hz.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No C wire Was my fault and didn't look into the smart thermostat I was hooking up to run 240v heaters. This would run a standard thermostat just fine but the newer ones require 24volts constant power to run the wifi and touch display etc. Home Depot returned this with no problems as always so it just costed me time. I would recommend purchasing a 3 wire one to make it more future compatible since a lot of newer thermostats use a third C wire.
