for the compac twin 4,000w 240v. what size breaker? what size wire?

Asked by: wally
Lots of discussions on this topic. Below is the NEC code for various wire gauges. The "80% max load" is a safety factor used by NEC for circuit continuous usage (joule heating) concerns. I wired my heater with 10/2 since the circuit length is 35 feet. Overkill, you can decide but for an extra $10 in wiring costs, I sleep just fine with this heater running several hours continuously in my cabin. I have it on a 20A breaker and have had no issues with the circuit tripping. 240V (US) (@ 80% max load) (50ft run or less) Gauge Amps Watts #16 9 2160 #14 12 2880 #12 16 3840 #10 24 5760 #8 32 7680 #6 40 9600 #4 48 11520

Does this have to be installed on an inside wall or can it be install on an out side wall?

Asked by: Bassoneman
I am not aware of any limitations on interior vs exterior wall installation site. I installed mine as a replacement for an old unit that failed - installed in an exterior wall. The new one is in the same spot and is working like a champ.

Can this heater be controlled by an off/on wall switch?

I want to be able to turn it off in the winter when we are not using the screened porch. I learned that thie knob only goes down to 50 degrees but does not actually turn off. Can I connect this to a switch to turn it off?
Asked by: scrappy
Sure can! Get a double pole switch rated at 20 amps and put in-line.

I had been looking at this heater for a year or so before I finally purchased it. I must say it was well worth it! I was using a "garage heater" in my 420 sqft workshop and it was not getting the job done - It was loud and did not keep the temperature constant at all. This heater is very quiet, does not interrupt conversation nor watching a TV. Fans are powerful enough to stir the air in the room, not just a few feet from it. The thermostat was better, but I opted to get a digital one that I placed on an adjacent wall later on. I absolutely love this heater! The thermostat I got was a "Honeywell Aube TH450/TH305".

Easy to install and made a big difference. 4000 watts is 12500 BTU in the same league as a propane wall heater. You can't get that much heat from a 120 V heater. The thermostat works once set, but it is not calibrated, so it takes some trial and error.

I purchased the Cadet Com-Pak Twin fan forced in-wall heater to replace an old unit that failed and am very happy. The output is tremendous as compared to the old unit (before it failed, obviously), and the space needed for the subject unit is only about 2/3 of the size of the old monster. I highly recommend this unit to you but add here a couple of cautions if your use is as a replacement: Carefully check the sizes of the two units (mine was so old I could not find a replacement monster anywhere) as you may need to plan for some wall repairs, and; make certain of the voltage of your current supply line - if not 240 volts you will need a different unit model or plan for the time and expense to provide for the increased power demand.

We like this heater and it works great. the thermostat feature is so nice to use ---it heats up a whole room in a short time. We actually have had this heating unit before and used it for many years---12 or 15 years and needed to replace it as the thermostat didn't work anymore. But we liked it so much we just replaced it with the same one. Its an excellent choice if you are looking for an in the wall heated.

This is our third one in three years. I like the heater size, it is up and out of the way but the elements burn out too quickly. I would have to remodel my wall opening if I switched to another brand. I purchase the 'product replacement insurance' with this last one. Good heater while it works, wish they would last longer.

I purchased this heater 12 years ago and recently an issue started with the fan. I replaced it and the new one had a wire burn up within the first two weeks of use, highly disappointed. Home depot gave me a full refund and I purchased a new one, same model, so far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4k Cadet Heater Very happy with how easy it was to install and how much heat it puts out. I have this one and a 1500 watt heater that heat most of my house's main level. Customer service was also A+. I was missing a part bag and they shipped it out next day air.
