We have an open kitchen/dining/family room area and must speak up when conversing if our heater is running. It is an older model, installed in 1998-99, so maybe there's been improvement in the technology since then? Thank you for your help!

The only thing I might add is if you're heating a large area, consider the 1500 watt unit....the fact that your unit is making that much noise could be an indication of a fan restriction or a lot of dirt......disconnect it, take it apart and clean it using compressed air....if it still makes a lot of noise the bearings in the fan motor are probably shot and I would replace it. Answer:
This Cadet heater is fairly quiet. It sounds the same as a hair dryer on medium while running. If the heater is setting directly on the floor under the cabinet then it could potentially make more noise than normal. Make sure that you follow the installation instruction in the owners manual when you are installing this heater.

Thank you for your question.
You can use either a single pole or double pole thermostat with the Perfectoe Under Cabinet heater. The single pole thermostat only has a high/low setting, whereas a double pole thermostat has a positive off setting.

Answer:
I would hesitate to wire a 240 at 120. The biggest problem is the amp draw and heat generated....also the durability of the unit itself.........all my baseboard heat is wired 240 and I have never had a problem.

Answer:
Installing a 240 volt heater on a 120 volt circuit will not work because the heater will only be functioning at 25% of it's capacity and will not heat up.

Answer:
With the Perfectoe, you have a choice of a single-pole (low setting) or a double-pole (positive off) built-in thermostat. I have added the link to both thermostats below, please click on the links to find out more about each one.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed We put in a cabinet where a Cadet wall unit was. The heater install into the toe of the new cabinet was OK, except that the screws were barely long enough, and silver, not black, so they don't match the grill. Also, the left grill fins were not painted well, and had silver showing through right out of the box. The silver screws just don't look very classy on the black grill. We have two other Cadet wall heaters in that room, and we were surprised at how noisy the Perfectoe is as compared to our old wall heaters. We purchased this online as the nearest store is a 3 hour round trip, so it was not worth exchanging for one with a better paint job. Perhaps the noisiness is due to being in a cabinet & not a wall. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good alternative to save space Heater works well but it is a little loud when it's on. It was very easy to install and looks great under our cabinets. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice compact heater, easy to install. Used this to replace an old failed unit. Installed into a stair tread. Newer unit was smaller but very simple to build a new pine faceplate to cover the difference. Quiet when running. March 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect for the bathroom. The contractor installed this in our bathroom and it's perfect. takes very little space, very quiet and heats the bathroom quite nicely. It also requires very little room to install. December 19, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job but ....... Heater was easy to install but was rather noisy when running. Vents on front direct air straight ahead rather than dispersing the heat evenly. It did however provide enough heat to warm our kitchen area. I just purchased a Broan 1500 watt kick space heater for use in a bathroom. The Broan uses a circular fan rather than the squirrel cage fan used in the Cadet heater and is much quieter. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy install. Works great. I replaced an existing unit under one of my kitchen cabinets. The installation took about 20 minutes. December 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product The under the counter heater was easy to install and perform great. First, I was surprised that Home Depot had this item as I had been surfing the web for months to find a product like the one ordered. It performs great. Go Home Depot!. September 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the situation We bought the Perfecttoe to fit under cabinets in a small bathroom. It worked perfectly. My suggestions are to use the 220v version which seems to heat better than the 110v and also to leave a long electric tail from your wall so that you can slide the PerfectToe in and out after you install the cabinets March 27, 2015
