I am replacing an existing bathroom heater that has a 9 x 15 recessed box. Will I need the larger recessed box?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, you will need to purchase a larger RBF series recessed wall can for this heater. You will also need to make the opening in your wall a little bigger because the heater is larger than 9" by 15". The rough-in dimensions for this heater are 10 1/4 inches wide by 17 inches high. Please refer to the Owner's manual in the "More Info" section of the product listing for installation instructions.

RBF Series 1000-Watt 120-Volt Electric Fan-Forced In-Wall Bath Heater Chrome is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installation Installation was very easy. I replaced a similar heater that failed. The new heater was taller so I had to modify the opening, otherwise no problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy retrofit Works exactly as hoped for. Simple retrofit because it fit the old box and the house wiring is grounded. Wish the Chrome cover was sturdier/heavier construction.. I can imagine that without care I could have easily bent this cover. This unit is only 1,000 watts compared to 40 year old Thermador 1500 watt unit this is replacing. It will be cheaper to operate and In my opinion, the quiet fan helps in warming the bath much faster than the original unit which was simply radiating heat without a circulating fan. I bought two bath replacements and both were well packed and received in perfect condition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement for Thermador I bought this heater to replace an old Thermador in-wall unit. I was able to use the existing wall box, so installation was simple enough to do myself. I was very impressed with the quality of construction of this heater - it felt solid and sturdy. So far I've used this heater for about a week. I have a tiny bathroom, about 5'x8', and it's easily able to heat that room up to nice and toasty within a minute or two. One point of consideration about the functionality of this heater - the fan seems to direct the hot air upwards instead of straight out. This worked out perfectly for me, since my old heater was located low on the wall, but it might be something you want to take into account if you're planning on installing it higher up.

The floor, toilet and tub areas remain cold. The actual heating element is only in the first 3 inches of the heater, and, of course heat rises. So, if you are using the sink you will be toasty warm. If you are using the toilet or taking a bath, you will be cold. This heater is a replacement for the old Thermador radiant wall heater and fits pretty well in the empty wall space. The screws don't line up perfectly, but adjustments can be made.

I chose this product to replace a 60's era open coil wall heater of similar size and look... Although the instructions failed to completely explain all the installation steps, I was pleased with the overall fit and finish... I've had this heater for about a month and am disappointed with it's performance... It has poor air-flow and low heat output: I would have bought a 1500 watt unit if it were available...
