Thanks for asking such an important question for the community! Maintenance and cleaning should be done at least semi-annually, or every six months minimum. There are several steps to cleaning the heater, which are detailed in the owner's guide at the top of page 4. We've attached a link here:

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by easy to install easy to install. requires little time to install.quality pruduct. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT HEATER VERY EASY TO INSTALL . DROPPED RIGHT IN. WORKS GREAT January 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Much better than the old generation, but needs user servicable parts Most of these systems run forever, but if one piece breaks down, the entire heater is worthless. After many years, I have a collection of pieces that just need one easy part to make whole again, but instead have to replace the entire product. I know it is the American way to throw away things after a year, but there is opportunity here to build a following of those that don't subscribe to disposable goods. Also not sure why prices have doubled in 10 years in an era of "low inflation" March 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wall heater review I bought a wall heater and thermostat for it a number of months ago. It arrived on time as promised and I installed it easily. It runs a little differently then the old model but the old one was 10 plus years old. The thermostat has taken a little while to learn how to adjust it properly but both items have worked well over the winter. I would order another product from Cadet in a heart beat. March 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Purchased four units to replace older ones that had been recalled.heaters were very easy to replace, either a screwdriver or Philips head and wire nuts is all that's needed March 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy install This heater went in very easy. It was a replacement for one that was about 20 years old. It heats a 12x12 bedroom great. Just be sure when buying this Model to get the correct thermostat 240v. February 3, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement for the original 20 YO heater Purchased as a replacement for a 20 year old Cadet heater. The new model heating elements seem to be made less fragile. I just hop the new one last as long as the original. December 17, 2014
