Customer Questions & Answers

does this thermostat stay on at all times. or does it shut off when it reaches the disired temperature or number setting. and does it come back on ?

Asked by: Jimmie
Hi Jimmie, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. The role of a thermostat is to regulate the power to the heater, causing the baseboard heater to cycle on and off to maintain a selected room air temperature. This unit connects to the power wires of the heater and derives its electrical power from those wires. The thermostat is always on to tell the heater when it needs to come on, and when to stop heating. The dial on the thermostat will maintain room temperature based on your selection within a range of 45°F and 80°F. Is a baseboard thermostat good for a flor heater

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Steven, The Cadet Baseboard-Mount thermostats work great on the Cadet Electric baseboard heaters! They are not compatible with products from other manufacturers. Your best bet for the most comfortable temperature, and greatest energy savings, is an electronic wall thermostat if you have the choice or the option available to you. Wall thermostats would also be compatible with other electric heating products such as baseboard heaters and in-wall fan heaters. You'll need to review the specifications on the thermostats to be sure. Thank you for asking!

Instruction says Hester needs to be hard wired. Can it be wired and plugged in at conventional 120 outlet?

Asked by: ray
Hi Ray and thank you for your question. Cadet baseboard and in wall fan heaters need to be hard wired. Do not alter the heater in any way to plug it into a conventional outlet.

What is the diffence between single pole & double pole thermostats?

What is the diffence between one pole & double pole thermostats. What is pro and cont. I am installing 96 inc 240 volt and 2000/2500 Watts. what is the benfit to pick the double thermostat in my basemant living room 220 sqf and high 8 feets.
Asked by: oswald
Thank you for your question. A single pole thermostat only has a high/low setting, whereas the double pole thermostat has a positive off setting. If you need to cut the power to the heater and turn it off using the thermostat I would recommend the double pole thermostat.

Does this thermostat have an off setting for the time of year I will not need heat.

If not, is there a model that does have an on/off setting?
Asked by: greg
No it does not. Just turn it all the way to "LO" and it shouldn't come on until it hits approx. 40 degrees. If you really want it off, just unplug your heater or flip the circuit breaker off. As far as other models that do, I have not researched it.

In the desription it says that this item is "Compatible with 120/220 volt baseboard heaters". I would assume that "220" is the same as meaning 240?

Asked by: matt
Yes, the BTF1A is compatible with a 240 volt baseboard heater. Thank you for pointing out that error and we will be working with Home Depot to correct it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! It is mechanical and it seems to work in a narrow temperature range; no wide swings between hot and cold. Since it is mostly impossible to tell when the unit is operational, I installed a small 120 volt A/C neon lamp into one of the small holes so I could tell when it is on. I just used a small round file to enlarge the hole slightly, slipped the lamp in and wired it up. It works great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drop-in replacement! Thankfully, despite a reversal of the knob rotation & a slight color mismatch, these controllers worked fine in two of our baseboard heaters (circa 1985??). Wired right in as "single pole" thermostatic controllers. Simple! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I ordered this item for a very old baseboard heater of similar look, brand of who knows what.... And it installed very easily by me, a female who does not do electrical stuff. I had to install it upside down to fit the old heater shape, and it works. I connected the 2 wires w/ nuts and used one screw to attach to the heater.
