Customer Questions & Answers

restart pressure

at what psi does it kick in to refill the tank during use? If it is too low then a nailer won't set the nails until you blow off some more air so the motor turns on and fills the tank.
Asked by: Doc
I run into this problem with my nailer... It will drive about 15-20 framing nails before it doesn't have enough pressure any more. but its not enough to trigger the compressor to refill, so I have to blow off pressure till it kicks on. Fantastic compressor, but this is a huge irritation. The pressures are adjustable, but unfortunately the way its done is backwards; If you want it to kick on sooner (higher than 90psi) to maintain useful pressure you can adjust two screws. Unfortunately one only adjusts max pressure, which is already set at 120. the other screw can increase minimum pressure but not without also increasing maximum pressure at the same time. You cannot increase the minimum pressure by itself while leaving the max pressure alone at 120psi.

Due to the design, one would think this unit is top heavy and would tip and fall during transport causing potential damage. Any thoughts or info?

Asked by: nailman
Definitely not top heavy.

Is this compressor suitable for occassionally filling car tires?

Asked by: Junior
Oh, yes and much much more. The only limits I see for it are big air tools used over time ( long bursts ) and that is only due to the smaller tank size (10 gal ).

It it good enough to blow water out of the lawn sprinkler system?

Asked by: Vin
The answer to this question depends on a series of variables. What size is the piping? How long is the piping? What elbows, valves and sprinkler heads are you trying to clear? OK, the short of the answer is I have no idea if it will clear your sprinkler system.

10 Gal. 2 HP Ultra Quiet and Oil-Free Air Compressor is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 158.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase, Simple to assemble, and wow, when I plugged it in and turned it on it was so quiet. I was able to talk with someone right next to me without yelling. I could barely hear it just inside the back door. So much less stress. I own two other compressor that are in various states of repair. A pancake compressor and another older unit. You can hear these all over the neighborhood. Controls are simple and the tank size is adequate so that it will go for quite a while before it starts to pump back up. When it starts up I don't jump out of my skin from the load noise. Quick to pressure up. Takes only a half a minute to fill from start up. Compact and easy to move around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 gal. 2 HP Ultra Quiet and Oil-Free Air Compressor I have only had this compressor a couple months so far. I use it for jobs in my garage only, that do not include any commercial type work. Having said that, I really enjoy how quiet it runs and that it can not be heard inside the house during use. I replaced a 25 gallon compressor with this one and find it keeps up with any job I have asked of it so far. It's "footprint" is small and fits into most any place one might want to use. It came on UPS, very well boxed for shipping, arriving within 5 days of when I ordered it from the Home Depot web site. Very little assembly was required ; putting on the wheels, which are solid requiring no air in them.....a plus in my book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good compressor The compressor is quiet, as advertised, and seems to work fine. A minor complaint is that the assembly instructions are rather sketchy. There is not much to do and it is not difficult, but the assembly and start-up instructions should be complete. A second minor complaint is that standard wrenches are too thick to allow them to be used to tighten the filter housings onto the compressor. Either make the nuts thicker so they can be grasped by a standard wrench, or provide a tool with the compressor to do the job. Otherwise it appears to be a good compressor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well engineered piece of equipment, but... I purchased the compressor for two reasons, size of the tank and because it was quiet. I have a 33 gal. compressor, but it's not very portable. I don't have a garage, so when I need to use a compressor I have to pull it out of my shed, and take it where I need to use it. I could have gotten a smaller compressor, but I have air tools that could use a little muscle behind it, a 6 gallon pancake compressor won't do. I used this California Air tool compressor, and it is very quiet, and the 10 gal. tank can power my air ratchet and or my impact wrench, although not for very long, but it quickly and quietly refills itself. The one drawback on my purchase was the small lawnmower tires they put on it. When I assembled it, the small lawnmower tires rubbed the side of the tank, making it very difficult to move around. I'm not a young buck anymore, bending over pulling a near 100 lbs. piece of equipment was not going to do. So I put some 16" pneumatic tires on it... yeah, take a gander at the pictures I posted, I also don't have to bend over to pull it around. So, other than the small tires that came with it, and it is a bit pricy, no doubt paying for the ultra quiet feature. I would say this is a rock solid piece of equipment, well engineered and thought out. I especially like the 2 hp motor, it quickly recharges the tank. it was a good purchase that I would recommend. I wish Home Depot would stock it in their stores. But the associate let me order it online at the store, and it came within a reasonable timeframe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Air Compresor This air compressor cost a little more then other air compressors but it works great and I can actually have a normal conversation with someone while it is on. It has 2 hp which makes it faster to fill the ten gal. tank. I have blown out three sprinkler systems and have not had one issue with it not having enough air. It also runs air tools great. I would recommend this sir compressor to any one. This is the last air I plan on burying per it will last a long time. That is why I spent the extra money on it. I was not disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mighty Mouse saves the day I actually purchased two of these compressors to replace the noisy units we had from years back. They are so loud and obnoxious sounding. This compressor is a joy to work with. It will fill up air in my truck tires or power light air tools. I bought one for my brother who has a car collection, and he loves it. It is easy to roll around and the storage of 10 gallons is enough that it doesn't cycle on/off frequently. I would highly recommend this compressor for anyone who needs a unit for their home, job site, or small shop. It would be perfect in a race car trailer. I cannot impress upon you how quiet and efficient this compressor is. You might be paying a little more than the noisy ones, but it is well worth it. Like the expression goes; you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Compact Compressor!! Finally had to replace my Porter Cable pancake compressor after almost 10 yrs. I choose this California Air Tools 10 gal and I'm very glad I did. I've had the compressor now for a little over a month and it has done everything I've asked it to with ease. I'm a full time contractor and have already used this compressor to run my framing gun & trim guns (15 ga & 18 ga) as well as my 18 ga stapler. It had no trouble at all. I also build custom furniture and used it to run my gravity feed HPLV spray gun to spray polyurethane and it amazingly kept up quite well. Occasionally I had to pause for a minute to let it catch up but I out performed the Porter Cable 25 gal upright that I used to rent. The Ultra-Quite feature is more than worth the cost on the California Air Tools compressors, I've never been able to stand next to a compressor of any brand or size and hold a conversation like I can with this compressor. No need to yell to get someone standing six feet way to hear me! That feature alone is worth the slightly higher price of this compressor compared to other ones of its size.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Remarkably Quiet - Responsive Tech Support I unpacked the compressor, assembled and connect to outlet, hit the switch. Powww, fire flew from starting capacitor housing and breaker tripped. Reset breaker, turn on compressor switch , nothing but a hummm. I figure the start capacitor blew. Called tech support late friday left message, they called back on a Saturday. Short story, i didnt return for exchange. Ordered start capacitor on CA web site. Recieved by snail mail. Removed start capacitor cover. REAL PROBLEM! Factory pinched the wire with the cover screw. Capacitor lead wire was burnt thru. Installed new capacitor. Compressor works fine, holds air for days. Very quite!
