Due to the design, one would think this unit is top heavy and would tip and fall during transport causing potential damage. Any thoughts or info?

Answer:
The compressor sits sturdily on 2-wheels and 1 foot when in use. It does not tip when wheeled around using the handle, but it is a little awkward to move because the handle is very low to the ground and you have to kind of bend over while walking.

Simply not the case. I have a 20gal that is taller than this one (same desgin and it isn't top heavy either). The compressor really isn't but about 30in tall. The tricycle style stance is quite sturdy. Can it be tipped over....of course. Would I call it top heavy? NO not at all.

Yes, we use it for air tools and car tires. As long as your tires don't require over 125 PSI this one will work fine.

Answer:
Sure but it's fairly heavy to drag out to the garage (unless you keep it there) when tires need filling. You can buy a small (10 gallon) auxiliary air tank pretty cheaply and add a short hose with a tire fitting, fill it from the compressor and it's much easier to move around in the garage. Filled to 125 psi (typical max rating for these tanks) it will easily air up the tires on two cars.

Yes, but it's probably overkill if that's all you're using it for. Unless they are giant 40" truck tires, then you might want something a little bigger.

With this compressor you should be able to fill car tires all day long. Keep in mid that this compressor is rated for residential use but does have a very short refill cycle of 130 seconds which is just over two minutes.

at what psi does it kick in to refill the tank during use? If it is too low then a nailer won't set the nails until you blow off some more air so the motor turns on and fills the tank.

I guess it all boils down to your tool's CFM and pressure requirements. But honestly, I've ran a ton of different nailers and have never had to wait. I mean I guess if you're one of those high speed roofers that will sink 24 nails in under a minute may have to wait. Read Less

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 143 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by California Air Tools 10 Gal, 2hp compressor Super quiet as advertised. Recovery time is good as well. There are a few flaws in the design in my opinion. The air filters are kinda flimsy, I had to put a bead of JB weld around the housing where it meets the threads to keep them on. The filters are also mounted in a spot the beats them up during transport. The air fittings on the front seem nice, but leak air after a few weeks of daily use. I replaced them with ones from Kentech. The wheels are a little small, but do the trick. The one thing I was surprised about is that it is made in China. I did a fair amount of research on this before my purchase and was under the impression that it was made in USA or Mexico. Sadly, its been outsourced to the Chinese... May 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good compressor The compressor is quiet, as advertised, and seems to work fine. A minor complaint is that the assembly instructions are rather sketchy. There is not much to do and it is not difficult, but the assembly and start-up instructions should be complete. A second minor complaint is that standard wrenches are too thick to allow them to be used to tighten the filter housings onto the compressor. Either make the nuts thicker so they can be grasped by a standard wrench, or provide a tool with the compressor to do the job. Otherwise it appears to be a good compressor. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Compressor This compressor truly earns the title Ultra Quite, you can hold a normal conversation in a garage while it is running. This, compared to my old model that the whole neighborhood could hear, is a great improvement. I have used it for lighter tasks with nailers and heavier tasks like spray -guns and air hammers, able to keep up with demand in both cases. The wheels on the unit are not very well designed and require some effort to move the compressor. not a huge problem if this is going to be, mostly, a stationary unit. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great - after an initial hitch The compressor check valve was not functioning when I received the compressor - it would continuously vent pressure and fail to restart at the low threshold. I left a VM and email with CAT customer service, and received and email + image showing how to disassemble/reassemble the check valve to ensure the seal was seating. I did that and it's working great now. This compressor is SO much quieter than my previous Sanborn - very happy with it now that it's working. :) April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well engineered piece of equipment, but... I purchased the compressor for two reasons, size of the tank and because it was quiet. I have a 33 gal. compressor, but it's not very portable. I don't have a garage, so when I need to use a compressor I have to pull it out of my shed, and take it where I need to use it. I could have gotten a smaller compressor, but I have air tools that could use a little muscle behind it, a 6 gallon pancake compressor won't do. I used this California Air tool compressor, and it is very quiet, and the 10 gal. tank can power my air ratchet and or my impact wrench, although not for very long, but it quickly and quietly refills itself. The one drawback on my purchase was the small lawnmower tires they put on it. When I assembled it, the small lawnmower tires rubbed the side of the tank, making it very difficult to move around. I'm not a young buck anymore, bending over pulling a near 100 lbs. piece of equipment was not going to do. So I put some 16" pneumatic tires on it... yeah, take a gander at the pictures I posted, I also don't have to bend over to pull it around. So, other than the small tires that came with it, and it is a bit pricy, no doubt paying for the ultra quiet feature. I would say this is a rock solid piece of equipment, well engineered and thought out. I especially like the 2 hp motor, it quickly recharges the tank. it was a good purchase that I would recommend. I wish Home Depot would stock it in their stores. But the associate let me order it online at the store, and it came within a reasonable timeframe. December 18, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good compressor with flaws Ok so I picked up my compressor at my local home depot . Nicely packed but wheel kit was lose in box this resulted in little dents into compressor tank paint . Wheels and air filters easily put together and straight forward instructions . Unless your gonna leave this at home like me and wheel it around its fine otherwise it is a heavy unit and I knew this when purchasing . If you need a unit that is portable , buy another unit this one is just shy of 100 lbs . Started it just fine adjusted outlet pressure . Ran it through two cycles " On , off , drain so on. No issues , quiet , filled fairly quickly . No obvious air leaks or strange vibrations . Now for the negative , U shaped carry tube was welded askew of the tank so its a little diagonal to motor and pump towers. Not a deal breaker but if your OCD like me , it will bug you . Its apparent that when putting this unit quality control is compromised . Decals on shiny metal face plate , not sure if its stainless steel are already curling at the edges and were bubble filled when removed from box again a quality issue , don't think they will last long ..I would tend to think that a unit of almost 400 dollars would be a little better put together . Ok I know its " Chinese " like most of our stuff but even for the Chinese quality control was absent when assembling this unit . If you can spare some extra money get a more quality unit. I'm keeping mine for now and will give an update when the unit is really put to work . April 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent unit Excellent compressor. Good design, quiet and fast recovery. Only negative is cold weather operation... unit does not start at temperatures below -5 degrees Celsius. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Top Notch Very easy to assemble out of the box. You can really have a conversation while this compressor runs(Very Quiet)! Powerful for it's 10gal capacity. Can operate practically any air tool. Price could be lower. April 5, 2016
