Product Overview

The California Air Tools Ultra Quiet and Oil-Free Air Compressor is designed to be one of the quietest air compressors in the industry at a noise level of just 60 dB. The powerful 1.0 HP (SP-9413) motor operates at only 1,680 RPM, creating less noise and less wear. The new SP series of Ultra Quiet Air Compressor Motors has been designed to increase duty cycle and allow for longer continuous run times. The oil-free dual piston pump system is engineered for high performance and durability. This pump is designed to have a life cycle before wear of 3,000+ hours compared to other comparable air compressors with life cycles of 500 hours or less. The oil-free pump allows for use in a variety of temperatures and uneven terrains. The 2.0 Gal. aluminum (rust-free) air tank is lightweight (35 lbs.) and very easy to transport. This air compressor is ideal for anyone working inside where noise is a major issue.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can u run this compressor. Off of a 2000 watt generator

Asked by: Jlo
A lot of factors come into play, but it would probably work if you plug it directly into the generator. Some compressors are vey finicky with generators, and not all generators produce the same quality of electricity. I seem to recall a review by someone who complained that the compressor had issues when using a long extension cord, and he found another compressor that worked. I know that this is answer is a bit non informative, but more research is highly recommended.

Thank you for your comments. The amount of pressure (PSI) is related to the amount of CFM (Cubic Feet per Minuet) used. Depending on how much CFM you use, it will determine the output of PSI. The more CFM used the lower the PSI. We hope this better explains our answer.

2.0 Gal. 1.0 HP Ultra Quiet and Oil-Free Aluminum Tank Air Compressor is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 26.

I needed a new air compressor to replace my old, noisy compressor, which had quit working. Reading in one of my woodworking magazines where they rated small shop air compressors. This one was highly rated, stood out for being exceptionally quiet, efficient, easy to use, very little maintenance required. I bought this last December and love it. Now when I use it in my small garage I do not have to wear earplugs. It is so quiet I can still hear my radio playing. I have it mounted on a rubber floor mat, the compressors rubber feet sitting on the pad. Compressor works well on my stapler and brad nail guns, the main air powered tools I use. Really like the Aluminum air tank as it reduces the compressor's weight, making it easy to carry around. Also, like how the air hose connection is so easy to access, up top, nothing in the way. I would definitely recommend this compressor for anyone who needs air to power home shop tools.

I've had this compressor for a few weeks now and couldn't be more impressed. The unit is compact, and relatively lightweight but is built plenty sturdy for my use which includes an occasional air tool, but mostly keeping cart/truck/tractor tires inflated. I didn't buy it because it runs quiet, but I wouldn't trade that quality away for anything now. You can run this guy in a completely closed garage and it won't bother you one bit. I think it would be perfect for indoor shops of any kind. I did snug down a couple of air lines/fittings because of a small, barely noticeable leak; a minute of work and it's tight now. I can't imagine being happier with my choice, I'll write again if I change my mind.

It is the quietest compressor I have ever heard but still a little louder then I expected. It does not interfere with conversations. You can talk in an almost normal voice standing or sitting right next to the compressor while it is running. If looking for a quiet compressor this is a very good choice and the price from Home Depot was the best I could find and included free shipping. Would recommend this compressor and Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for finish work I've had it a month now and have run it only three times, but you can tell when you have something good. When I first received it, I ran it through a half dozen cycles to check for leaks, recovery speed and sound levels.....All pasted. The thing is extremely light and rediculously quiet. It's just what I wanted and expected... a compressor for trim work. Something I can easily bring in any room, run and not scare the bejesus out of the customer's dog or two year old. For an 18, 16, even a 15 gauge nailer this will work like a charm. Like I said, I've only had it a month, so long term performance is unknown. But it looks like a winner to me.

After downsizing to a condo I was looking for a small compressor that would not take up too much room in the limited space that I now have. This compressor has worked perfect, it fits on a shelf on my work bench and can easily be moved around when needed. Its so quiet and run so infrequently that I sometimes forget to turn it off for a few days. The only limitation I have found is the one I expected, at 2 gal. its a little light on capacity but it builds pressure quickly. So far I think its great.

My only complaint (and hence the 3 starts) is the quality control. On mine, the motor regularly did not start, just hummed, right out of the box. I would have to shut it off, wait a couple minutes and then it would start, almost like it was overheating even though it was under minimal load. CAT customer service was good, but they requested I return for exchange through Home Depot. I'll update with results of replacement unit.

This air compressor is very quite and suits the needs inside residential and commercial applications. It has stopped working twice while in use for no apparent reason. I checked for a breaker and there is none. After a short period, few minutes, the compressor resumed operation. I don't know if it overheated or if there is the proverbial short in the unit. The use was very moderate in only running the unit for spraying for a minute or two each time.

It is much more quiet than most other small compressors, and lighter than the big ones. ( I have an Emglo 4 gal framer, and I don't enjoy humping 70 lbs to the job and listening to the loud noise, especially if I am just running trim.) I like the dual piston pump, the reduced noise, the lighter weight ( about 35 lbs) and the quarter turn drain valve which makes it more likely that the tank will be drained on a regular basis. The materials of the actual compressor are supposedly heavier duty, and the tank is aluminum. The object is to make a longer lasting unit and along with the features and price, this is the reason I bought it. So far it has performed very well. I highly recommend this compressor. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I need more time to assess its performance.
