I realize that would depend on the exact location but since sometimes I am away for months I am concerned. If it needs recharged before I get back then I may have to get the electric type or both. Thanks..

I use one in my basement and it last about 8 weeks. My basement is fairly damp. The color of the beads will change to indicate when it need charging.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work for me The Cannon-Silica-Gel-Dehumidifier-Ideal-for-Safes- arrived with some of the pellets loose in the box, and in dusty condition. Perhaps the one I received had been previously returned, but I did not think it would make a difference in the product's performance. I set it up for several humid days inside a closed cabinet, with hygrometers both inside the cabinet and in the surrounding room. Unfortunately, there was no difference in the readings inside vs outside of the cabinet. Perhaps it requires a more safe-like surrounding? For whatever reason, it did not work for me., so I will be returning it August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple and effective. Easy to use. Open it up throw it in the safe and every few months heat it in the oven with low heat. Red and blue color indicators are present to display current state of silica. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Keep ammo dry So far, so good!!!!! A friend recommended this product. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for protecting valuables Needed something where I could easily reset (remove the water) and reuse as needed. This product lives up to its design and quality. Small price to pay in order to protect items stored in a safe for long periods of time. Could be used of other things, but I have not yet. Thanks! December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Functional & Gets the Job Done These are a great investment, and work well in safes. You can also use them in closets and other areas. They save money in the long run, as unlike things like Damp Rid, where you throw them away once they have absorbed moisture, these you just put in the oven for 3-4 hours and they 'recharge'. The silica beads are blue when fresh, and turn pink when they need to be dried out. Simple, easy, and effective. Worthwhile investment. I prefer these to the electric dehumidifying rods. While these are great for protecting weapons, I also use them in a safe with backup hard drives, cameras, and electronics, and also in closets to protect things like high end purses and belts from moisture. I live in the humidity capitol of the nation, and have been happy with this product. July 7, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This product is very user friendly. This dehumidifier is very easy to install. The remarkable feature is that you can recharge the unit in the oven and your good to go again. March 4, 2014
