Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great transformation Took old looking step tred and brought it back to life. Easy to install. April 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best option for us This product ended up being the best option for replacing the carpet on our stairs with something un-carpety. Our house is relatively new construction, and removing the glued-and-nailed particle board treads and risers presented too daunting of a challenge. We are planning to put the Alexandria Walnut pergo in later, so we chose this. It worked out quite nicely, with the following caveats. 1. Each tread had exactly the same "picture" printed on it. The "picture" would vary only in position on the tread, and each tread had the same definite patterns. Our stairs are 36" so we were able to vary the cuts to make the distinctive patterns less obvious. 2. One tread (out of the 12 we ordered) had a 5" crack along the bulnose edge. Luckily we were able to work around the crack thanks again to our 36" steps. 3. This stuff's spendy. You can get a prefinished solid wood tread for the same cost, if you're able to remove the treads you've already got. There are also solid-wood systems similar to this that cost about the same if not a bit less. 4. The color is exactly spot-on with the pergo flooring, but the sheen is different. It isn't textured like the pergo flooring and therefore looks a lot less realistic, but on the other hand the difference may make the treads less slippery. Overall I'm very glad this product exists and would use it again despite the costs and challenges. In the photo, the dull areas on either side of the stairs is from the carpet, not the cap-a-tread.
