Which Cap-A-Tread finish will best match the "Prescott Oak" finish of Pennsylvania Traditions laminate flooring and Zamma transition moldings?

Asked by: palee2000
Hey palee2000, The Prescott Oak has a small amount of a red oak color to it, and this Brasstown Oak looks pretty similar to it. But, at the end of the day, you can use it to see if it will work for you, color-wise. Joseph

Customer Reviews

Brasstown Oak 47 in. Long x 12-1/8 in. Deep x 1-11/16 in. Height Laminate to Cover Stairs 1 in. Thick is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easiest stair upgrade for DIy'er! At $50 a tread + the cost of the riser, it is not the cheapest but it is well worth it and still comes out a lot cheaper than having a contractor do it. The quality is actually above average. The only thing you need to be aware of is the nosing cannot be forced to fit to larger existing nosing. If you do, it will break apart. After removing the existing carpet, the treads are really messed up because of the mud droppings from the wall when it was mudded were not removed but let to dry thus making the tread thicker including the nosing. I ended up sanding most of the existing treads for the cap to fit in. Another thing to note is for closed type stairs, the existing tread may not be squared to the walls, so you will need to measure accordingly. Otherwise, I am very happy with the upgrade and also the wifey, who keeps complaining about vacuuming the stairs and now that is all history. One more thing, for the landing I used wood laminate of the same design and for the risers, I used melamine shelf boards which are not only way cheaper but also easier to clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great looking, durable product a little pricey but still cheaper than hardwood. I like the durability of laminate and this product is the only laminate stair tread option I could find. available only at HomeDepot.com The installation is pretty straightforward but be prepared for scribing individual tread and riser angles back and forth to the saw all day.Take your time. 50 bucks a tread 30 bucks per riser=$1000 for 13 stairs straight up with no landing. Mistakes could be costly. I used a five dollar t bevel for scribing angles, but I would recommend the 100 dollar jig that scribes both sides at once and adjusts out for length. I think this tool could have reduced significant time back and forth to saws. Also, make sure to double check and triple check treads after gluing to ensure they don't slide back any after installing Allow overnight for liquid nails to set. Cap-A-Tread made a huge improvement over my carpeted stairs and adds great first impression value to my entryway into my home.
