It is a unique and handy product if you are refacing your steps. But it is not the easiest to work with for a DIY'er. As the the comments mention it does come with chips along the white, you just have to choose which part you are going to cut off (not a big deal). My biggest complaint is that it does not have at least one side finished. In the video it does show how to cutback a 45 degree then make a wedge to finish off an side that will be exposed, but you really, really must have a compound sliding miter saw to do this properly. I attempted it with a circular saw and it is just too hard to get a proper straight cut on the riser then the wedge so that they meet up properly. My steps are very odd in that they are not squared when you look at them, one side needed an 11 degree cut and the other side is open faced. So it was very difficult to cut with just a circular saw (had to order another one due to a wrong cut, my fault, but still have to wait two weeks). I also found I had to cut it face down so the white laminate didn't chip more than it was the way it come. Overall, the product does it's job for a great price. It is just a little hard to work with if you have an open end and need to cut angles.

A lot of mixed reviews on this. And after ordering, I can see why. Many boards were not perfect. The edges were chipped a little here and there. But here is the thing...assuming you are using this as a riser for your stairs, unless your stairs are the exact dimensions of this board, you are both cutting it and ripping the board. What I did is cut off any ends that were not perfect (using a 12" sliding miter saw with a 100 tooth ultra fine blade), and then ripped the board leaving the best end clean and uncut. Keep in mind that you put the ripped board under the lip of the stair, so it is only visible by someone looking or the top stairs that are eye level. And, if you finish the job right, you use caulk between the step and the riser.
Just remember to order extra for a miscut. And if you order extra from homedepot.com and don't use it, there is no restocking fee to return them. It's a risk free project, to be honest.

I ordered these to do my stairs, 15 in total that ran $208 total. Given that price I expected high quality given the MUCH cheaper alternatives. Every single one looked like it was ripped on a table saw with a dull blade as they were all chipped out on the edges.

Don't listen to everyone telling you to install only carpet on the stairs. The cap a treads and risers look beautiful and are totally fine for kids and dogs.

The Good thing is the break is a few inches above my cut so I can still use them.
The break is at about 37 inches and I need 33 inches.
The Top is chipped and the Bottom as well have a few chips.
I had them shipped to my Local HD Store but I had to sing for them before they would allow me to check them for damage so this may be my last on line order from HD.
