I ordered this island and it arrived within 5 days as promised. It came in two boxes that were not exceptionally heavy or large. My husband put this together with minimal assistance from me in about 2 and a half hours. Other reviewers have said it took them longer and I can see how it might if your not very experienced with assembly or if you are working completely on your own. It is possible, but an extra set of hands at certain points does help. The hardest part of assembly, there are several bolts that you have to put into a recess in the wood, making it difficult for people with larger fingers to hold in place. Other than that, assembly was pretty smooth with no missing, damaged, or misaligned parts at all.
Once it's all together it's a solid piece of furniture that looks gorgeous. I will warn prospective buyers that it is open wood, not finished. You will definitely want to put some kind of finish on it immediately to keep it from picking up oils from hands or any stains. We choose not to stain it and simply put a couple coats of tung oil on it to bring out the wood grain. Did I mention it's gorgeous? It really is. It looks like a much more expensive piece of furniture.
That brings me to the quality. The back and sides are press board covered with a wood veneer. The rest (top, doors, drawer front, moldings) are all real wood. I would say this is a good quality for the price. It's definitely not cheep but considering I've seen some islands for twice as much that still use some press board materials, I'd say this is a good deal and quality made.
I have a tiny kitchen, with only 4 bottom cabinets and three top, very limited storage. This cart is perfect for the small space I have and provides both extra storage and the versatility to be used as a table. If those things are important to you, this is worth it. If you have a large kitchen it might be too small for you.
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and glad it all went together so well and so easily.

Ok so it comes in 2 flat boxes with 1000 pieces but with a little patience and about 6 to 7 hours it develops into a wonderful kitchen cart with a nice dropleaf, spacious cabinets, spice rack, towel holder, etc. Made of real wood. I highly recommend treating it with a wood oil. We love it

A substantial piece of native wood made in upstate New York. I have never seen quality like this in RTA furniture. It is harmonious perfection in wood.
You will need commitment and building skill. Contains about 30 perfectly cut and finished wood parts; approx. 100 steel hardware parts (hinges, brackets, handles, wheels etc); something like 80 fasteners (screws, nuts, bolts, washers etc).
Took me about 12 hours, half of which was spent oiling and polishing wood panels before and after assembly. I want this to last and proper wood care is essential. Read the instructions thoroughly before starting. I work methodically, glued all wood joints (in addition to screws/fasteners provided). Cart probably didn't need this, but I prefer wood that is screwed AND glued.
The eight-page care booklet it came with is an education itself. Serious wood-worship. Reads like an article from 'The Craftsman'.
This is great stuff and will last a lifetime.

I love this island. It is sturdy and complements our honey oak cabinets perfectly. However, what I really dislike is the fact that it is extremely narrow. The description indicated both the depth and width as 28". What it doesn't tell you is the 28" is with the 13" leaf in the open position. When the leaf is down, the width is only 15". Had I known that the width of usable space is only 15", I would've ordered the next size up. Regardless, it's still a beautiful island that we'll enjoy for many years to come.

I was looking for additional counter space for my kitchen and chose this unit mainly for it's size and appearance.. I also wanted something made in the USA.
The instructions were easy to follow with illustrations for each step.My husband assembled it with no problems. After assembly I applied two coats of tung oil and applied four coats of butcher block oil to the cutting surface. This enhanced its beauty even more.
The unit is absolutely gorgeous and I love the versatility of being able to move it out of the way when not in use. The overall quality is exceptional. The only improvement would be wood screws instead of pins to make the unit more solid. Other than that I am very pleased with my purchase.

The unit was very easy to assemble. It has wheels so I am able to move it to location where it is needed. The side has a panel which can be raised to give additional surface space but can be lowered when not need to facilitate added room space. All i can say is that i am sorry I didn't find and buy it sooner.
