Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy assmbly This turned out to be a great find. Easy to assemble. Looks great September 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not all it's cracked up to be... Less-than-accurate claims and disappointing craftsmanship regarding Butcher Block Workcenter, Model 54238 are as follows: A. The Catskill Craftsmen's website states that "all drawer parts are solid wood". Not true. The back side of the drawer is made of veneered particle board. B. Worse yet, the back and sides of the cabinet are ALSO veneered particle board. The manufacturer's website describes the back and sides as " Warp-resistant, hardwood veneer". Although their wording is truthful, they avoid stating the fact that the sides and back are actually 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch particle board with a 1/16-inch-thick layer of hardwood ("veneer") glued onto both sides. Because the sides and back of this workstation are approximately 90% particle board, you should NEVER remove the wheels from this workstation while it is being used in your kitchen. If your workstation is sat directly on your kitchen floor and it (the workstation) happens to come in contact with any liquid, the sides and back of your workstation will soak up that liquid like a sponge. Particle board should never be exposed to moisture of any kind. It does not belong in kitchens, nor bathrooms. C. The spice rack was impossible to assemble because one of the spice rack shelves was 1/4-inch longer, and 3/8-inch wider than the other. The list of tools the manufacturer states you will need to assemble your workstation, is not correct since you will need a table saw, drill and drill bit in order to re-cut and assemble the spice rack properly. D. The nickel-finish door/drawer pulls are a very nice touch, however, the chrome-plated towel rack bar, and chrome spice rack rods are not a good match with nickel hardware. Matching finishes would have been much classier. E. The inner profile of the cupboard-door rails and stiles was cut with a dull router bit creating unsightly edges and rough surfaces. It would appear that finish sanding with a 220-grit sandpaper is left to the customer. Note: A lack of sanding by the manufacturer, made applying oil to the doors difficult. The applicator cloth was damaged due to rough edges, and poorly-sanded surfaces causing the cloth to snag and leave behind a trail of lint. Plan on purchasing sandpaper. F. One cupboard door arrived broken. The shipping containers were very well packed and showed no signs of damage due to shipping, so it is unknown whether the damage was shipper related, or if, perhaps, the door was broken prior to shipping. Said door contained two 4-inch vertical cracks, one starting at the top of the right stile, the other starting at the bottom of the right stile. Using the Kreg Joinery System, and some wood glue, the cracks were soon mended and assembly continued. G. Although the center panels of most cupboard doors are made of joined wood, I've never seen joined wood used on the rails and stiles. Substandard craftsmanship... H. The 1/4-inch ply material used for the bottom of the drawer, fit very loosely into the 3/8-inch routed slot provided in the surrounding four drawer sides. Shims and glue applied underneath the drawer created a much more sound and solid drawer. I. "Butcher block?" Although the manufacturer's website calls the top of their workstation "butcher block", I've never seen a butcher block counter top made from random-width hardwood. Yes, bread boards/cutting boards - the kind that pull out of a kitchen floor cabinet will often contain random widths of joined wood, but random-width butcher block? Google butcher block, click on "images" and see what kind of butcher block photos appear. Buyers of this product should be prepared - the butcher block top on your workstation is made with wood ranging from 1/2-inch to 5 3/4 inches wide. J. The two positives I can share regarding this product are the following: 1. When I called and told the manufacturer I had received a broken door, they responded in a very kind and professional manner, and a new door was shipped out immediately. 2. Once the workstation is assembled and oiled, it looks gorgeous. The imperfections, modifications, repairs, and assembly hassles fade away. K. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely Unfinished Island Great size, lovely looking wood, attractive cabinet, but, it would have been nice if in the description it had mentioned it is UNFINISHED WOOD! The entire cabinet, including the top surface, are porous unfinished wood. Which means, after my nephew spent hours assembling the island (the amount of assembly not in description either) we still have to buy something to put on the top so we don't accidentally, permanently stain the surface. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great space and work surfaces. It fits perfectly in our kitchen which had relatively little countertop work space. The unit is well built, spacious and went together quite easily. December 11, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So glad we purchased This has been such a great addition to our kitchen. I added the much needed work/storage space we were lacking in our space. Quality is good and it looks great either against the wall or pulled out with bar height stoles pulled up. We love it. February 5, 2014
