Customer Questions & Answers

If I purchase this item, how will I be able to get this "Contemporary Kitchen Cart" assembled?

Regarding this "Contemporary Kitchen Cart", I love it! However, I will NOT be able to assemble this item. I have recently become a widow. My husband was always good at assembling items such as this. Will I be able to pay an additional amount to Home Depot for them to assemble this item for me? I do like it very much and it does fill my needs in my kitchen to house my microwave as well as my toaster over. Please be kind enough to reply ASAP.

this sounds like a question for home depot. however, I am sure a neighbor or relative can help you install. it's certainly not a simple task. each of the metal pieces are heavy. and you need to screw these large screws in simultaneously holding the pieces upright. I recommend getting a friend or someone else to install for a widow.

What are the dimensions of the middle shelf to the top?

Asked by: ScorttiJ
about 9 3/4". the reason for this length is because the metal support bars underneath the wood shelf are 1" thick. the metal support bars are what is screwed to the side metal frame. you do not screw the wood shelf into the metal frame.

Do the dimensions of "depth," and "width," indicate the same thing?

I have an opening that is 3 feet wide. I assume that the length of 34.25 means that it will fit. Does this mean that the dimensions of depth and width are the same thing...23.5" ?
Asked by: Kath
Well, yes. It has a length of 34, a height of 36, and a depth or width of 23.

Customer Reviews

Contemporary Natural Kitchen Cart With Shelf is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Serves the Purpose, But The overall quality of this cart is okay, but it should be noted that all three shelves are made using finger-jointed wood. Since the wood is finished with polyurethane and not painted, the finger-jointing shows. Typically, finger-jointing is only used when the wood is painted. I also had a problem with one of the screw holes (out of 12) which simply would not take the screw easily. I had to use extreme force to finally get it to be set. Also, only two of the wheels come with the locking feature, and after setting them the cart can still be moved around, doesn't really lock the cart in place. If you consider these things minor, then this cart will work fine for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good value This product is well finished and surprisingly sturdier than the picture might indicate. Has nice size and the casters work fine. Add rubber ones or larger if you like, but I find them to be perfectly sufficient even with a good load. Has a very nice clean look without appearing "heavy". A lot of surface area and storage. I have a dehydrator (10 tray), pressure cooker, shrink wrapper and food processor on it with no problem. Top is about an inch thick. If you want a heavier block for cutting on directly, look elsewhere. Otherwise, a very good value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wow what a nice cart; Just finished assembling the Contemporary Kitchen Cart. I was impressed by the sturdy well designed construction. The two tools required, allen wrench and small flat, straight end wrench, were included in the kit with 12 sturdy approx. 3/8" X 2" bolts. I was expecting a 2+ hour project but i was able to assemble it in ONE hour and that is taking my time to make sure it's done right. It's all wood and painted steel construction with 4 plastic 2 1/2" wheels, two of which have locking mechanisms. I only give it 4 out of 5 stars because the width of it is actually one inch more than stated which could be a problem if all you have is 35", when the top is actually 35 1/4". Also, i think they could have used rubber wheels for better traction, and bigger 3" size for a few extra bucks. However, ordering this item, sight unseen but by the internet pictures, I was pleasantly surprised. Anymore, it seems these carts are not displayed anywhere in stores. It may increase sales if they put up some displays. I believe this cart could last in service for 15 years. I will place it in the kitchen, next to the stove, in one of my rental units for more counter and work space. It's counter height and wide and deeper than most.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty Quality Plus Great Value! After looking online, this kitchen cart was the best for high quality, size, and value! I recommend everyone looking for a kitchen cart to consider this one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking kitchen island The cart was easy to assemble and has a quality look about it. The only Con is that the wheels do not lock and keep the cart in a fixed place as well as I would hope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I just moved out of a house with a large kitchen and 7 foot island! I am now in a small rental house with limited kitchen space and I was desperate for designated veggy prep space. This island could only be improved if it was 6 to 8 inches longer. Otherwise it is perfect. My husband who cannot screw in a light bulb without supervision easily put this island together. The two shelves easily hold my standing kitchen aid mixer, my fruit juicer, large mixing glass bowls, and Vitamix blender. The included S hooks allowed me to place my hand towels, oven mittens, large utensils and plastic cutting boards from William Sonoma on the side rails. It is also the perfect height for me (5"2"), but it is a little low for my husband of 6'. It easily moves, but the wheels can be locked. Very versatile. I highly recommend this island.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, attractive and easy to assemble This is a very solid cart. I usually get my husband to do the assembly, but it was so easy I knocked it out myself. If you follow the directions you will not have problems. The locked wheels have stayed put with a very heavy load (large microwave on top and lots of cast iron cookware, crock pot and stock pots are currently on it).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great investment I was shopping around for a kitchen/dining storage rack, but more importantly, I was looking for a large enough and strong enough top shelf to support a small refrigerator. this accomplished that. I shopped around, but only found either very small top shelf sizes or flimsy non-sturdy enough to hold a mini-fridge intact kitchen carts. I was skeptical on the purchase because you cannot tell how sturdy something is without seeing in person; touching; feeling. But luckily, reading the reviews from those already purchased, I got comfortable this would work. And sure enough, this turned out to be what I was expecting. the cart is sturdy because it's heavy. must be made of steel. the original packaging was pretty heavy, so I was pretty happy that the cart is heavy and sturdy. it holds the fridge very well. the storage underneath is spacious, and also sturdy. Very happy with the purchase. the top wood shelf is 35" x 24". the mini-fridge is 19" deep, so it's perfect. there is enough buffer, so the fridge does not hang on the edge of the shelf. the cart is 36" tall with the wheels. You can use it without the wheels because you need to install the wheels separately.
