Customer Reviews

Cottage White Kitchen Cart With Storage is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Heavy. Much assembly required. Somewhat noxious. Long story short: We took this thing back. Read on to find out why. One thing they don't show on the specifications is weight of this little cabinet, which is 41 lbs, according to the shipping label. Why so heavy? Because this piece consists mostly of particle board (i.e., sawdust bonded with glue) whose specific gravity seems on a par with concrete. The only actual wood component is the top. And despite the total weight of the cabinet, the shelf and drawer panels are only about 1/8" thick; they looked likely to sag under the weight of heavy objects. Nothing in this piece is pre-assembled. You will have to put together every single part, of which there are 18, not including the 70+ bits of hardware. (You can see them all on the assembly instruction PDF.) Many of the screws go directly into particle board. (If you've assembled particle board furniture before, you know how easily an over-tightened screw can ream out a pre-drilled socket.) But the real show-stopper for me was that when I unpacked the carton and laid all the pieces out on the floor, my throat got irritated and my eyes started tearing up. Whatever it was that caused that, I simply couldn't bring myself to endure it during what was clearly going to be a long and fussy assembly process. Nor was I willing to live with the thing off-gassing in the kitchen after I had assembled it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice cart Found this cart on another website, but ordered from Home Depot. Shipping was fairly quick. The size was just what we were looking for. Took a little less than an hour to assemble. Not bad quality for the price. I would note that info on another website indicates it could support 75 lbs per shelf, but that means only the top and middle shelf. Inside the cabinet, the floor is only 1/4" pressboard so definitely would not hold much weight. This is easily remedied by installing 4 1" corner brackets vertically, 2 on each side of the inside base edge of the cabinet sides and then cut a piece of either 1/2" or 3/4" plywood to fit inside and set on top of the brackets. We replaced the wood top with a piece of granite we had left over from our counter which we had cut and polished to match. The cart is sturdy enough to support the weight but then you don't want to add too much more weight on the shelves. The drawer could use some modification as well. It slides on wood rails on the side and easily pulls all the way out (same issue with the floor of the drawer, so it would not hold anything too heavy). I have ordered some drawer glides that hopefully fit inside the grooved edge of the drawer sides to give the drawer better support and prevent it from being pulled all the way out. If you are handy, these upgrades are easy and transforms your inexpensive cart to a higher level.
