Customer Questions & Answers

Can these be used outdoors on the underside of a porch?

Asked by: KK
Ceilume has not tested this tile for out-door installation. The tile itself is made of a durable vinyl that is impervious to moisture. The issue is how to mount the tile for exterior use that will be exposed to potentially drastic heating and cooling cycles. If glued in place, the difference in expansion rates between the vinyl and the adhesive could cause the adhesive bond to fail.

Can they be cut for the ceiling edges where there is not full grid squares?

Asked by: Urs
Yes, the low-relief pattern of the Ceilume Fleur-de-lis ceiling panel allows it to sit flush in a ceiling grid, even when cut down from the full 2x2 size.

can these be glued over a flat textured ceiling? (not popcorn)

Asked by: test67
The determining factor in a successful glue-up installation is the condition of the ceiling receiving the tiles. Hold a long straight edge (a yard stick or level work best) tight to you your ceiling. If the flat texture is uniform without high peaks or low valleys, then the nature of the adhesive to "fill in" around the texture combined with the slight flex of the tiles will allow you to glue-up the tiles. The finished ceiling will not be as "perfect" as it would be if you started with a smooth ceiling, but the project will be much easier!

Can this be used to cover a popcorn ceiling finish?

Asked by: ljm
We do not recommend installing any Ceilume tile over popcorn finishes as the uneven nature of a popcorn finish provides a poor substrate for any ceiling tile installation. The junction of the tiles will not line up evenly from tile to tile and the resulting installation will look "bumpy".

Fleur-de-lis White 2 ft. x 2 ft. Lay-in or Glue-up Ceiling Panel (Case of 6) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from good looking was a little challenge as it was pretty flexable. looks really good on the ceiling. loved getting rid of the popcorn. ended up gluing at the decorative circles as well as the edges and holding for a minute to ensure adhesion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much easier than tin! Glued these right over sheetrock, and they really made my drab office look beautiful. I also used the self-adhesive strips for the seams. What do I like about them? They trim with regular scissors (not like tin tiles---I've worked with them before and they can be really challenging), and you just glue them in place. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install. Looks geat! I had no problem cutting the tiles with sissors to accept the fan, lights and A/C ducts. They fit great either with or without backing tiles. The imprint really looks like an old tin tile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking, easy to work with These panels look even better in person than on the web. They're very easy to install (and to cut while maintaining the aesthetic value--one reason I chose this model vs. a couple others). Mine are in an 80-year-old basement with two load-bearing poles, seven hi-hats and three sections of visible ductwork, yet the panels look like they were made for the space; most are laid in on frames, but a few are glued to standard contractor panels where unusual spaces demand. They're thinner than you'd think (they look cheap out of the box), but they're durable. They're definitely not cheap--middle range as these things go, and because they're six to a box, and it's good to get 10% more than you think you'll need, it's easy to end up with lots of extra panels (eight in my case)--and I'm still stinging at the thought of $1,100 for a 15' x 19' basement ceiling that, except for the special-shaped cuts, took two workers about hours to hang (including frames) but they look great and seem like they will for a very long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kinda difficult to install, but it looks great!! Be sure your ceiling is FLAT! This stuff looks so good installed but any "features" under it will show through. I did a 9 x 12 room with it, and it took us 4 hours to complete.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the money Very thin. Sags in drop ceiling. Very expensive for a piece of plastic.
