The 12/3 option is recommended. The third (ground) wire is essential in order for the GFI to work. The twelve gauge wire has less resistance which results in less voltage drop for the 100 foot run. This is important even if you use a 15amp breaker. It also depends on the load (heater for the coop?). Outdoor electric tools can draw a lot of current too, so the thicker gauge is preferred. I do not know for sure, but I doubt it. It may be possible that HD offers the UF in cut lengths, but you pay per foot.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solved a real problem quickly Installed this direct burial cable recently as replacement for substandard original submersible pump hookup. Per visual inspection during installation, this product appeared to be of good quality. Length was within spec at 100'. Completion test was successful. Compared to the original cable, this product had superior outer jacket thickness and included the ground wire. June 17, 2014
