Product Overview

This 600-Volt, grounded, jacketed cable wire is used primarily in residential wiring, including branch circuits for outlets, switches, etc. It may be installed in both exposed and concealed work in normally dry locations, and in air voids of masonry block or tile walls which are not subject to excessive moisture or dampness. It can be installed in locations with temperatures up to 90 Degree C but with the ampacity limited to that of 60 Degree C conductors. The added circuit is for use primarily in residential wiring for branch circuits supplying outlets located in bedrooms and other areas.

Yes. Romex is a brand of NM wiring, and many use it as a generic term for it.

Thank you for contacting Cerro with your product inquiry. Romex® is the brand name for a non-metallic (NM) building wire made by Southwire. NM does not refer to the wire itself; the wire is copper. Nor does it refer to the jackets around the wires; those jackets are made of color-coded PVC (polyvinyl chloride)--black, white, and red.Instead, NM pertains to the sheathing--a 30 mil-thick PVC jacket--that Read More

NM-B type wire is not rated for wet locations, which is what the National Electrical Code considers the inside of an underground conduit.

Thank you for contacting Cerro with your product question. For best usage, the NM-B wire is to be utilized in normally dry locations, and in air voids of masonry block or tile walls which are not subject to excessive moisture or dampness. If you are running the wire where there is potential for it to be exposed to moisture and/or buried underground , then we would suggest UF wire as a better choice.

If you are wiring a 5 bedroom house and your asking the simple questions, may I suggest that you contact an electrical contractor. He will guide you and keep your home safe. Your going to need a lot more than a roll or two of 14-2.

In my experience, there isn't much of a price break beyond 250 ft. You'll need at least one 250' roll, but then purchase more if and when necessary.

14 Gauge NM is rated up to 600 Volts. Depending on how many outlets, switches, lights, etc, height of walls, number of windows to go around, etc. would greatlyimpact the amount of wire you need.

I've never seen a small hot water heater that didn't require at least a 20A circuit - which would require 12/2 - per the National Electrical Code.

Answer:
Thank you for contacting Cerro with your product inquiry. We would need to know a little more about your hot water heater to be able to fully answer your question, but 14-2 NM-B has a maximum amperage of 15 amps. You will need to consult a local licensed electrician before starting this project. Let us know if you need any other questions answered.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Simpull Romex is the way to go. This stuff has a rough texture and the sheeting is too thick. Makes it harder to pull and strip. The stuff is garbage compared to the Romex simpull brand. April 13, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good wire, good price This wire works well for 15 amp circuits and is cost effective. Don't use this wire for anything higher than a 15 amp circuit. The outermost sheathing on this wire is a bit loose, but that actually works to your advantage. I was able to strip it away easily with just a pair of wire cutters, and I didn't have to worry about accidentally cutting the interior wires. The Interior wire sheathing was easy to strip away as well with just a pair of wire cutters. In 250ft and 30 outlets wired, I only managed to break one wire, so really pretty good quality. The wire pulled well also and didn't bind up in holes in the studs or around corners. July 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well known brand Cerro's been making wire forever and that's about how long I've been using their products. Their quality is excellent, their pricing is competitive and I've never had a circuit fail due to a manufacturing defect. If you need to run a 15 amp circuit, above ground and indoors, this is the wire to choose. August 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 250 Ft 14/2 NM-B Wire I have purchased a dozen or more of these rolls of electrical wire from Home Depot. Consistent Quality and Excellent Value. You can't beat Home Depot for Quality, Quantity, and Great Value. October 29, 2014
