Product Overview

This 600-Volt, grounded, jacketed NM-B cable wire from Cerrowire is used primarily in residential wiring, including branch circuits for outlets, switches, etc. It can be installed in both exposed and concealed work in normally dry locations and in air voids of masonry block or tile walls that are not subject to excessive moisture or dampness. It can also be installed in locations with temperatures up to 90°C but with the ampacity limited to that of 60°C conductors. The added circuit is for use primarily in residential wiring for branch circuits supplying outlets located in bedrooms and other areas.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can this wire be used outdoors, if it is run through conduit?

Need to add 2 receptacles under my awning for security cameras. Running from another receptacle.

Thank you for contacting Cerro with your product inquiry. It is not recommended to use NM-B wire outside, however we would suggest the UF wire which would work better for that application and usage.

What the differences in the wire rolls of 10/2 and 12/2 and the letters that follow the numbers

Here is what NM-B means: NM-B cable is the most common form of indoor residential electrical wiring. The “NM” stands for non-metallic, which refers to the flexible, generally PVC sheathing surrounding the cable. The “B” represents a heat rating of 194-degrees Fahrenheit. This rating ensures wires can operate at certain levels without overheating, melting the insulation and creating fire and safety hazards. Inside the sheathing are at least two thermoplastic insulated wires of the same gauge, though different cables can have different gauges. As with wire, all the information you need to know about NM-B cable is printed on the sheathing. The 12/2 is the gauge of the wire. A 10/2 cable is thicker (higher gauge) and is meant for large appliances and such. 12/2 (and 14/2) are meant for residential use for standard electrical work. 12/2 is rated for 20A, while 14/2 is rated for 15A. In my example, 12 and 14 are the wire gauge, and the 2 is the number of wires inside the sheathing. Most electrical wiring also includes a ground, but it is just copper wiring (usually) and not the same gauge, which is fine. To be safe, if you are doing residential work, I would go with 12/2. 50 ft. 12/2 NM-B Wire, Yellow is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Actually required by my city I bought this as a replacement for 14-2 wiring after discovering that the city I live in actually requires 12-2 wiring for interior work. I needed to put in a new electrical outlet for a ceiling mounted projector, and this worked like a champ. The thicker gauge means it won't twist or tangle easily, and it lays flat over most surfaces. Additionally, I bought this on sale ($22) through HD's "special of the day" email, so the shipping was free. Great deal for a great product.
