I have a craft project that requires me to obtain around 50' or so of bare copper wire, sat 14 gauge or so. What do you have that would not require me to remove the coatings?

Every three numbers in the gauge equals twice the size. Confusing, yes, so let me give you an example. If you used two 17 gauge wires together that would be the same as a single 14 gauge wire, which is what you're after. Hoswever, 17 gauge wire doesn't exist as far as I know, so go to 16 gauge. This 18 Gauge would be the closest you could purchase at Home Depot. Everything that is 14 gauge is THHN, in which you would have to remove the coating.

Why do you indicate that grounding wire is for indoor use only?

I'm considering running a wire underground for an electric fence as an alternative to grounding rods. The fence will be to protect a small vegetable garden from small wild animals. Obviously, the wire would be used out doors buried in the soil.

This particular gauge of bare copper is traditionally used for lamps and other indoor applications.
