Answer:
The manual indicates to have the feature - but it requires a special wall door opener which has the feature programmed into the wall unit.
I could not figure out how to turn it on, beyond getting a programmable wall control unit.

Yes but only from inside the garage using the emergency release handle and opening the door manually. For automatic usage when there is a power failure you need to have a model that has a battery back up system.

Don't think so, assuming soft start or stop means that door opener (movement) slows down when nearing open or closed position.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Your car remote may not work!! And to make your car's HomeLink work you may need to buy a $25 bridge device. So another trip to the store to shell out more $. This may be the case for pre-2013 cars, even if your HomeLink worked with your old opener. There's no backward compatibility. Also, the instructions are not as clear as they ought to be on a couple steps. For example, it is not clear that you can not use your old safety sensors and mounted door control button. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Opener This is a very quiet garage door opener. It's much quieter than the screw type opener that I had. Assembly was very easy, as was setting the travel limits. Mounting the unit to the ceiling was a bit difficult, but only because I was doing it alone. The first one I bought was missing the bag of hardware. Chamberlain was going to send me a replacement bag, but would've taken over by week to get to me, so I took everything back to HD and exchanged it for the new one. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install - worked right away I installed this in a couple of hours (replaced an older model that finally seized up after 20 years). The new model works well - very smooth operation. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Open Says Me! A good opener. I installed one of these for my home several years ago and it has operated flawlessly. This one I installed on a client's house and she is thrilled. I think it could be a little quieter, however it is good enough that I and my clients are satisfied. It has better lighting and other openers that I have installed. It's quality appears to be better than most. All-in-all, a very good value. September 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hardly hear it open or close I included installation when purchased...done three days after....wow! I am pleased! October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very impressed I replaced an old chain drive Craftsmen garage door opener with the Chamberlan and the new belt drive is so much quieter, installation was a breeze, very happy with purchase. September 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Did the job but with a caution! The opener works very well. Caution! it did not fit in the same space as the older Chamberlain unit, requiring new ceiling bracing. This is where the complaint comes! The local Home Depot didn't say that you had to arrange for installation when you bought the unit, and they would have required us to disassemble the unit, return it, and then buy it again, with installation. Really? Home Depot needs to make it clearer about their limits up front. And to take down their big signs for the unit with lifetime motor warranty, that is no longer being offered . Disappointing, yes. Bait and switch? Maybe. We found a local contractor to install the unit for reasonable, so the job is done. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Installation I am still waiting the product to get installed. I purchased the opener and paid for it to be installed. This was done on September 17, 2016. So I am happy at all. September 27, 2016
