Answer: 
The answer to your question is no, the 953D is not a replacement for 953CB. You'll either need 953CB or 953EV in order to replace your unit. Thanks.

I have two openers. One is working fine, the other works sporatically. If I purchase a new remote, how do I program it to the existing code?

Answer: 
There are detailed instructions included with the remote control to help you program the remote in a few easy steps. You will not need to re-program any of your existing remotes, you will simply add a new one to work with the opener. The 953D works with Chamberlain systems made after 2005...your existing remote should have a symbol that looks like this ((( ))). Be sure to check for compatibility.

To program the new remote to the existing opener press and release the “learn” button on the motor unit. The learn indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds. Within 30 seconds press and hold the button on the hand held remote. Release the button when the motor unit light blinks .This is the sign that opener has learned the code. More info and

Hi ZEAK! The Chamberlain model 953D can be used to open or close your garage door but does not have a lock feature. The lock feature available through your control panel mounted in the garage can be used to lock out all remote controls from opening the door. Because the lock feature locks out all remote controls there is no way to activate this from a remote control.

This unit requires a 3V 2032 size coin cell battery for operation. Home Depot offers this battery.
