Answer:
I replaced mine with these from my 1993 1/2 HP Craftsman and it worked fine! Not sure why they don't recommend this for anything before 1997, but it works great.

Answer:
Yes, this works with PRE 1997 CRAFTSMAN garage door openers. You just have to switch the black/white from the door to the white, and the white from the opener to the white/black and you are good to go!

Don't know with an absolute certainty; however,if they resemble and have the same part# or patent pending #, stamped on the plastic body, more than likely!

Answer:
Yes! I checked the Elite Liftmaster series of garage door openers; the sensors match perfectly. I installed my pair in 10 to 15 minutes; included aligning the eyebeams. Hope this helps...

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Install Easy to install but would have liked it better if if would have fit the original brackets better. New brackets were to flimsy and didn't fit the sensors well. Also slightly pricey. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Like a Champ! Easy to install. My garage door had a problem with retracting while trying to close mainly when the sun was dead on the door. Since the retracting is related to the safety beam across the bottom of the door opening, I decide to replace the two sensors. Works like a champ now, every time. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked on my 1993 Craftsman model just fine! My old 1993 garage system was installed when the house was built. It's an old '93 Craftsman 1/2 HP with the original safety sensors. Just this past week, our garage would open but wouldn't close without holding down the main control. At first I thought it was the remotes, but when my 'homelink' didn't work either in my car, I knew it was something else. After researching and youtubing, I learned it was our safety sensors. Our receiver unit was lit green, but the other one was blank (no light). I found these on HomeDepot, but it said it was not compatible for my model since it was a '93. I read the questions and reviews and noticed a couple others had tried it on their older models, so why not give it a shot. So today, I purchased them at Home Depot and saw that the wires were identical to my existing sensors. I cut out the old sensors and mounting brackets out and spliced the wires together and what do you know. It works like new! At first, I wasn't a fan of the mounting hardware that is included, but it was actually pretty simple to mount to the rails. Got everything lined up, and works better than my old sensors! Very happy customer! I highly recommend these if you need new ones. And don't be afraid if you have an older model. Just look at the wiring and make sure you connect it correctly! February 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sensors fit fine Installed these on a 1994 Craftsman opener and door. They fit just fine in the original brackets. Only took about 20 minutes. February 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Work fine with Craftman model: 139.53479SRT. Date:07/1995 I bought this set to try replacing my Craftsman sensors that failed in a cold night. Online or Sears order will take days. Only HomeDepot is still open late so I went and grabbed one. Come with wires, clips. Took me 15' to replace using the existing brackets and it worked fine even thought manual and someone stated it doesn't work with '95 model or earlier. Craftman 1/2 HP model: 139.53479SRT January 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy replacement install Purchased to replace failing door sensor. Very easy installation with clip on brackets for sensors and crimp wire connectors. It took longer to remove the old sensors than to install the new ones. Work perfectly. February 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GARAGE DOOR SENSOR I call four service to repair my garage door sensor one was no good ,services was $95.00 to come to fix it and the coast of a new part home depot had chamberlain garage door sensors $38.99. It work grate four my lift master garage door model 801cb. The installation were good and all the parts the connectors were fast but you must have a adjustable plier to crimp the connector.Time to do this job taking my time and not rushing the job and takeing of the old parts less than 30 minutes January 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Impossible to line up sensors so can't get it to work Easy to install but cannot get to work at all. Sensors both light up but it is impossible to know if beams are aligned because there is no feedback and instructions are lacking. Doesn't work. Frustrating time trying to adjust for over an hour and still doesn't work. Lame. January 23, 2016
