Answer:
The unit permits a second access plug. I would not use the second outlet for anything other than a low wattage safety light... the amp drain for any motor can be a problem for multiple outlet devices.

Answer:
This product was designed to allow the second receptacle of a standard "wall socket" to be used once properly installed. That said, large adapters (a.k.a. "wall warts") may not safely fit in the second receptacle. To be clear, only products plugged directly into the System Surge Protector are protected against surges. Follow all manufacturer's instructions and local electrical codes during use.

Hello KJT! Yes. The Chamberlain surge protector, model CLSS1, will work with the Genie Chainlift 600 model you inquired about. The main thing to remember when wiring the safety sensors from the Genie into the surge protector is that both the white wires (one from each sensor) will each go together into one terminal in the surge protector and both striped wires will go together into one terminal as well. This is different than wiring the sensors directly to the motor, because on the motor there are separate terminals for each of the 4 total wires from the sensor.
The CLSS1 is not recommended to be installed with garage door openers manufactured by Marantec America Corporation or Hoermann, Inc. USA.

Low voltage circuit wired in Parallel?!?!

This question is from System Surge Protector
Asked by
MardiGras
November 9, 2011
I fully understand how the surge protector protects the garage door motor from an AC spike, since the protector is wired in SERIES between the AC wall outlet and the AC input to the motor. However, I DO NOT understand how the low voltage 24 Volt circuits (safety sensors & wall control) are protected, since they are wired in PARALLEL with the surge protector, which means that current can simultaneously flow from both the surge protector and door motor to the safety sensor & wall control, which makes no sense. Whereas for the AC circuit, current must FIRST flow through the surge protector before getting to the motor due to the wiring in SERIES, which makes perfect sense. Any comments or clarifications??

Answer:
the lowvoltage units travel through a splitter... they do not combine with the motor voltage... the protector has internal circuits to "split and protect".

Answer:
The surge protector contains a number of circuit protection devices for both the high and the low voltage sides. All of these devices are wired in parallel and are designed to suppress voltage spikes that exceed a clamping voltage.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Protection I didn't know when I purchased this online that it had to be wired to the board of the opener therefore I had to get an electrician to install it. Luckily I didn't have to pay for that otherwise I might have exchanged it for one that just gets plugged into the outlet and the opener plugs into the surge protector. If it said it has to be wired in the description I must have missed that part. I wanted to get the Chamberlain because I trust this brand and knew it would be compatible with my Chamberlain opener without the possibility of voiding my warranty. It also was the best priced among all online retailers. February 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simple, but intelligently designed More than a typical surge suppressor for the power line feeding your device. Also protects against surges coming from the remote sensors; like from a lightning strike hitting one of them. That makes it a little more complicated to wire up, but nothing too strenuous. I also appreciate the green LED indicator. If the unit has been "sacrificed" by a hit, the LED goes out and you know you're no longer protected - time to replace. Very compact unit. February 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very satisfied! I have had the product for about 18 months now and am very happy with it. We live in Texas and get quite a few thunderstorms. I never have to worry about my garage door openers getting fried from a lightening strike. These surge protectors are awesome! My brother in law is getting ready to put in new openers and he too is ordering these surge protectors! February 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by added protection a power surge in my home destroyed the circuit board in my garage door opener. the circuit board cost over $100. fortunately my opener was still under its two year parts warranty. hopefully it never happens again with the added protection of the surge protector. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by "a necessity" So far we've had a couple of power outages in the area because of lightning and my garage door opener is holding up. I would recommendthis product for everyone who lives in the area where it's always raining and lightning, this product is a must. I didn't know they made surge protector for garage door opener until I replace my garage door opener over a month ago because the lightning hit the transformer in my neighborhood. I wished I had known I would have saved about $300.00. By the way, my son installed it in 1 minute. May 15, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by a REAL best option to replacement this device will save money... Home Depot was less costly than other list prices and free shipping to the store only took 3 days. Installation was a snap.... no additional wiring. After having to replace one motherboard from an incidental lightening storm, the savings against possible future events is great. September 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works excellent... as described. While living in Florida is so nice, we have more than our fair share of lightning. This product works as described. I've never had an issue with my opener for as long as it was installed. Installation is as easy as plugging it in. Recommended! You could buy a surge protector in other stores, but this is made especially for a garage door, so you wont have wires hanging or other issues. Nice! March 30, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product should protect my garage opener during our numerous power outage spikes Hope thi product protects door opener during the next power surge that occurs too frequently in Michigan. January 14, 2014
