Answer:
Unit is about as fast as the Liftmaster chain drive it replaced. Probably takes4 to 5 seconds to open a 9' X 7' single wooden door. Might be the same time as the old drive, but MUCH quieter than before. Well worth the weight.

Our unit was past its prime too. I'm sold on the belt drive, it's nice and quiet and speedier than our old, clunky belt drive.

I find this opener to be at least as fast as my old screw drive Chamberlain, which is plenty fast for me. Mine opens and closes a double aluminum door in about 6 seconds.

I just timed it for you. [I have the 8 foot accessory. Reduce times by 12% if you'll be using the "out-of-the-box" 7-foot lift.]
The door opens in 12 seconds and closes in 17 ... it closes slower because of the "soft close" feature.

I have a home office above my garage and I'd say this opener is a lot quieter than the chain-driven one it replaced and the screw drive one that I still have in the second bay. It's definitely quieter than our washing machine, if that helps.

I found it to be very quiet. We had a garage door opener under our game room theater, and you could hear/feel it. This one is not under a room (we now just have a one story) but I was surprised at how quiet it is. It is not silent, but on a scale of 1-10, I'd call it a 3. Our older unit was about an 8.

Answer:
No it is not a battery backup door opener. In a power failure, you pull the cord to disengage the unit, then open the door manually.
One reply says it comes with battery. They are talking about the remote. The opener dose not operate with a battery.

Answer:
Hi Florida - You can install the garage door opener to a finished ceiling but you would need a support bracket and fastening hardware. I have included a link to the manual for you to copy and paste into your browser. If you look on page 15 of the manual you can see what to do with the support bracket(s). http://chamberlain.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4939

An installer would mount a piece of angle iron to the ceiling using lag bolts through the popcorn covered drywall and into the ceiling joists. The installer would then attach the hanging angle iron to that.

A popcorn ceiling shouldn't be a problem. A bracket should be hung on the underside of the ceiling that is attached to two trusses or joists above and then the opener would be hung from the bracket. The bracket could be an "L" shaped piece of steel such as:

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product Very nice opener, quiet as advertised. installation instructions we a bit difficult to follow but overall ok. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replace Old Lift Master This was a replacement for my old LiftMaster in which the Mother Board went bad, so it was pretty much similar-to-similar in the installation. It also helped to have my neighbor who'd done this "fix" before, there to read the directions, while I was on the ladder doing the job. Took about 2-3 hrs from beginning to remove the old unit to installing the new one, setting the electronic eyes, and programming the remote. It has a very quiet and smooth operation, and I am very pleased with the unit so far. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Whisper Drive really DOES whisper! About an hour to install, this is a replacement for another 10+ years old Chamberlain opener. Living in front of the beach, electronics and anything mechanical takes a dive very quickly from the salt air - we expect it. That the old opener lasted as long as it did was a miracle so when it came time to replace, we simply got the newer model Whisper Drive Opener. The belt on the old one broke a couple of years ago, I called Chamberlain and they overnighted a new belt even though the opener was 7 or 8 years old at that time. Great customer service, Chamberlain stands behind their products so over the years, I have recommended Chamberlain not only to my neighbors but also to my clients who live on the beach. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great I purchased 2 of these units to replace outdated failed screw drives. The instructions were good but the installation took longer than expected because I had to relocate the ceiling support structure for the drive motors. I thought the wiring for the safety light beam looked fragile and could be damaged by material stored on the floor or sweeping. Therefore, I drilled a 5/16" hole in the side of a spray can cap and installed it using the wing nut on the safety beam assembly. You can still see the green and yellow lights on the safety beam units. See picture below.. January 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely Satisfied. Very good product Replaced a 25 year old Lift Master unit with this new WD832KEV. I am very happy the way everything came together. Works better than expected. I remember installing a Ginie Silent Max 1000 at another location and that was not a pleasant experience. I had to get a replacement controller after calling their customer service. That was the main reason I decided to go with Chamberlain this time. Instructions were little confusing, but once everything was hooked up, programming was a breeze. I did not even program the two remotes, they were working. Very quiet, hopefully it will last another 25 years. June 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Unit arrived 3 days earlier that expected!!! Opener works very well and is very quiet. The installation was not difficult although you should read the directions carefully. This opener would not operate from my Chevy Silverado as stated by others in their reviews. Purchased a remote repeater that works with the Lear device in my truck. Unit programmed the first time and is working well now. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bought two Not taking credit for installation. Had some help. Got 2 of these. 1 replaced an 18 year old Lift Master that gave me great service. Very happy with the purchase! February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great deal Replaced two 26+years very old RAYNOR unit with two WD832KEV. Everything is better than expected. They are easy to install, adjust, and program. Now they can be controlled by reprogram remote, keyless entry keypad. I'm very happy controlling my new two garage door openers everywhere on my phone with one MYQ gateway. So convenient.
