How fast/slow is this opener

I'm looking to replace a Lift master chain drive unit that is well past it's prime.
Asked by: Anonymous
It's about half as fast as a chain drive, but a lot quieter which makes it very nice.

They have a battery backup model now. I have used it for a year or so and it came in handy a couple of times.

How quiet is this opener we have a bed room above the garage?

Asked by: Anonymous
This unit is MUCH quieter than the chain drive we just replaced. Our kitchen is above the garage, so you could feel the previous opener work. Now, it's a distant whisper. Much nicer.

If I have an existing Chain Drive system, do I need to replace the rail?

If I have an existing Chain Drive system, do I need to replace the rail?
Asked by: WannaUpgrade
Yes you will need to replace the rail. The mounting holes and the pulley for the belt is much different from a chain drive.

The instructions and the diagrams are very well illustrated and the instructions made sense. It was a huge help to have another adult there as the motor unit gets heavy when you are checking for level and fit. We chose to buy heavier perforated angle iron that was beefier than what comes in the kit. Keep in mind each installation is different and your application my not require additional brackets as ours did. We used two ladders as well to help with this install. I like how simple and straight forward the instructions were. I like how it works and is quiet operationally. It exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this kit.

Some of the on line videos are helpful. I was impressed that all of the parts necessary for installation are included in the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great door opener I purchased this to replace my Craftsman chain drive that was 11 years old. Very easy to install, instructions easy to follow. All parts where in the box, actually had some extra ones. The garage is under the bedrooms, my old one was very noisy, I went with a belt drive after seeing the one my son has in his new house. The door opens very smoothly and closes tight on the bottom. Easy to set up external key pad. The only thing I noticed in the instructions is they tell you not to use LED bulbs as they can reduce the range or performance of your remote controls. I used the compact fluorescent bulbs. We can't buy incandescent bulbs in Canada anymore. Just wondering if anyone used the LED and if they had any problems with the remote controls? My only other comment is to tell you to be careful of how long you leave the emergency release rope and handle. If you have an SUV with roof racks that have cross members the handle can catch on it and release your door causing it to come crashing down on your vehicle. This applies to all makes of garage door openers.

The instructions could have been a bit more explanatory but were still Ok. I called the Company up a few times just to clarify some installation points; they were very helpful. There is only one wired opener unit that comes with the unit (not to be confused with the 2 wireless remotes included.). I like having an open / close switch on each end of the garage - it's very convenient. I'm still trying to get my "Homelink" equipped vehicles to recognize the Chamberlain system. One of my vehicles was listed as compatible. It's only been a few days, so I need to make sure I'm following the programming sequence correctly. I don't want to but the $24 Compatibility Bridge - but I will if I have to. I believe that the "Safety Reversing Sensor" system has to be enabled before it becomes operative. I am easily able to open and close my door without the sensors being operative although I did install the sensors and I can see the LED lights come on whenever the opener is in operation. (The instructions indicate that this system MUST be INSTALLED for the opener to function. I'm thinking that enabling it is an option. I consider the whole thing a federally-mandated nuisance anyway - Although I haven't checked to see what happens if it hits an object as it is closing!) If this is a do-it-yourself project - as it was for me; it's easily doable. (I do all kinds of things around the house - you'll save a fortune over the years.). Nevertheless you must take care to think things through. You want your job to be professional in installation; as I said, it is easily doable. You will have to determine how your ceiling joists run in relation to how you attach the brackets to the ceiling. The kit does come with 2 small brackets. I went to Home Depot and purchased two 4ft holed brackets (L shaped); they were much sturdier. You will have to assemble the opener and attach to the bracket right above the door and then determine as accurately as possible exactly where the unit hits the ceiling. Mark a line along the length of the opener support brackets where they touch the ceiling. My joists ran parallel to the garage door. The opener unit was marked right in-between the front and rear joists. So I had to install the ceiling brackets perpendicular to the door and right above the brackets on the opener. (In other words, the ceiling brackets ran parallel to the brackets on the unit.) I cut one of the HD brackets for both ceiling brackets - about 20" long each. A hacksaw easily cuts the bracket. I then cut 4 mounting brackets to length (about 2 1/2 inches) to attach the unit to the ceiling brackets. I attached 2 mounting brackets on each side of the unit. The unit is rock solid to the ceiling - it doesn't move while in operation - which is what you want. I found that only one mounting bracket on each side was not good enough. So also buy 4 extra 1 1/2 inch bolts with nuts and lock washers (like the ones that come with the unit).

Less noise, in fact it's so quiet you barely hear the garage door opening or closing. The motion sensor on the door switch automatically lights up the garage whenever I step out. The package included 2 remotes and a wireless keyless entry, which is nice (as my wife and son can have the remotes and I can take the keyless entry with me). This belt-drive garage door opener is a replacement for my old genie screw drive that went out after a few years of use. I like it and it took me about a day to install it. I am 73 years old and I installed it alone.

Assembly and installation was not as difficult as I expected. It would have been finished alot quicker if I would have known the tools/pieces I needed before hand. Love my new Chamberlain and will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a Garage Door Opener.

This is a good garage door opener, but with some drawbacks that you should be aware of. The directions are terrible and are not detailed enough and just seem to gloss over entire steps. Because it is has MyQ technology (although without the wireless transceiver built in) you have to get a special accessory opener that you order from liftmaster if you want an another opener near the door. The normal accessory buttons that you buy at home depot or you have left over from a previous installation won't work because it uses digital technology and crossing the sires dos not give an open signal to the master unit. I ordered an 883LM from amazon and it works perfectly. so there it is.
