Answer:
Unit is about as fast as the Liftmaster chain drive it replaced. Probably takes4 to 5 seconds to open a 9' X 7' single wooden door. Might be the same time as the old drive, but MUCH quieter than before. Well worth the weight.

Our unit was past its prime too. I'm sold on the belt drive, it's nice and quiet and speedier than our old, clunky belt drive.

I find this opener to be at least as fast as my old screw drive Chamberlain, which is plenty fast for me. Mine opens and closes a double aluminum door in about 6 seconds.

I just timed it for you. [I have the 8 foot accessory. Reduce times by 12% if you'll be using the "out-of-the-box" 7-foot lift.]
The door opens in 12 seconds and closes in 17 ... it closes slower because of the "soft close" feature.

This unit is MUCH quieter than the chain drive we just replaced. Our kitchen is above the garage, so you could feel the previous opener work. Now, it's a distant whisper. Much nicer.

The unit itself is very quiet. There is always a bit of noise associated with the door because of the sound the rollers make when it's in motion.

I have a home office above my garage and I'd say this opener is a lot quieter than the chain-driven one it replaced and the screw drive one that I still have in the second bay. It's definitely quieter than our washing machine, if that helps.

the opener is almost silent. the only noise that may bother is the door itself. but a good tune up on the door including nylon rollers and proper adjustment you should not hear it at all in the room above.

I found it to be very quiet. We had a garage door opener under our game room theater, and you could hear/feel it. This one is not under a room (we now just have a one story) but I was surprised at how quiet it is. It is not silent, but on a scale of 1-10, I'd call it a 3. Our older unit was about an 8.

Answer:
No it is not a battery backup door opener. In a power failure, you pull the cord to disengage the unit, then open the door manually.
One reply says it comes with battery. They are talking about the remote. The opener dose not operate with a battery.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 410 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy PROs: Assembly and Install were pretty straight forward. The unit is very quite and smooth. It comes with two remotes and a wireless, Keyless, entry keypad to mount outside, all are pre-programed and have batteries installed, ready to go. *The remotes bought separately would be over $100. The control pad has many functions, operate the door, motion detector light switch, automatic close options. CONs: Instructions do need to be clearer, illustrations are low in detail. ie; dose not show or tell what side is up when installing the rail. You should go to YouTube and watch the video first, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5kPdnSEdLI July 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Chamberlain WD832KEV Like a giant erector set but following installation guide everything went together ok. Very quiet and handles my 16' wide wooded sectional door fine. I like the outdoor keypad which is programmable for limited guest entry. Also like the motion detector that turns on the light when I enter the garage at night, very handy! I took off one star because this opener would not program to the garage door opener buttons in my Lexus and I had to order a Homelink compatibility bridge at an additional cost of $28. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, except for price increase Very quiet and works great. Very upset @ Home Depot thou. Checked price in the morning, and when I went to order that evening when I got home from work; price increased $30!! All models of Chamberlain openers went up in price. I called and got the run around and said that is the way it is-too bad. I would have bought from another vendor, but Home Depot has the monopoly on this particular model that no one else has. Had it installed professionally in a new house August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Surprisingly easy to install My old opener failed so I ordered this one. It came exactly on time and was easy to install. It is much quieter than my old one. Just remember that if you drive a car 2012 or older, that has homelink you may need a bridge to make the homelink work. That was an additional 25 bucks but again, easy to install. I also like the auto close feature since I'm losing my marbles. The new trick is remembering to hit the hold button so that the door doesn't automatically close in 5 minutes when I'm walking the dog. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ididit Able to install myself also used utube video. Happy with purchase hopefully it will last a long time. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value Does what I needed and as far as installation goes, it looked easy.. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Impressed I like the options that came with this. Belt drive is smooth and much quieter than any chain drive. Has a motion detector so when you walk into the garage the light comes on automatically. Much easier to adjust the travel of the door. Belt tension is automatically adjusted by a spring tension. Not too hard to install. Mostly, had to read instructions very carefully. Took about 5 hours start to finish. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sure is Quiet The name speaks for itself. The belt is very quiet and smooth. Sometimes I have to double check to make sure it closed behind me. The installation was also very straight forward and easy for a first time installer. I would highly recommend this product to any one looking for a new garage door opener. August 16, 2016
