Am I buying two belts (one useless) for an 8 foot door???

This web page seems to indicate that if I buy this door opener it comes with a belt for a 7' door and if I want to use it for an 8' door, I have to pay $47 more for a rail extension and an 8' belt. That seems to mean that I'll be paying for a 7' belt that is totally useless to me. Is this correct?
Asked by: Etaoin
Mr. Munroe, The whisper drive I installed came with one belt, which as you stated is suitable for a 7' door. Yes you need a rail extension and a different belt for an 8' door. There are customers such as myself that would gladly pay for your 7' belt. I would recommend putting the extra belt on line. Regarding the whisper drive itself. Awesome product. I have had mine in service since fall of 2012. Battery back up works well. Good range on the remote. Easy to install. Hope this helped Frank

Can I use a 2nd wired button to operate this opener while the original panel is still wired up?

I have a Flash 2 Pass garage door opener attached to my motorcycle. This works by "replacing" the wall button on most systems, the device on the bike triggers its sibling wall device to open the door when I hit high beam twice. If I get this fancy opener with neat "console" I want to be able to keep all that, and use my Flash 2 Pass on the bike still. I can wire it up near the garage door opener and leave the console by the door if that will work.
Asked by: mtwolf
Hello Mtwolf, and thank you for your question. It is not possible to wire in a second wall button or hard wired control device to this system.

Will the 3/4 HP be too much for my single car garage 8' door or should I go with the 1/2 HP?

Asked by: Jadensdad2005
I'm sure both will work just fine. Neither should be considered "too much". The 3/4 shouldn't have to work as hard as the 1/2 horse, the result being it should last longer. At least in theory. Like buying the larger horsepower mower, weed eater, chainsaw or snow blower. Stronger motor should last longer than a smaller horsepower motor performing the same job.

what is the total length of this system (from header brkt to end of motor housing)?

I have a beam going across my garage ceiling so I only have 122 inches of space.
Asked by: MaryS
Hi Mary, I contacted Chamberlain to get you an answer. Chamberlain states that the rail length is 7 feet. The over all length including the motor housing is 9 feet. This equals 108 inches overall. Hope that answered your question.

Whisper Drive 3/4 HP Garage Door Opener with MyQ Technology and Battery Backup is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 152.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Battery Backup Not Worth It I purchased this opener back in 2009 (my version did not have the smart phone capability). It has worked really well except for one big flaw. The battery used for the battery back-up only lasts a few years. Then the opener is programmed like a smoke alarm would be to continually sound until you change the battery. I'm sorry, but that is not necessary at all! Not having a functioning battery back-up is not on the level of a smoke alarm not working, and is beyond annoying. Plus the battery used is not something you can run to just any store and pick up. It uses a special battery and the special battery is much more expensive than a typical battery. On top of this, in the 7 years I have had the opener, I have had to open the garage door while the power was out a total of zero times. My advice, skip on the battery backup - not worth it. The opener it self is a good product minus this feature.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work for Older Overhead door I have a Learn button on the Overhead door Legacy door opener and spent about an hour trying all 9 combinations listed on the minimal guide provided. I called the number listed but its not for the Universal Door opener, another 10 minutes wasted. Then on went on the website and tried to locate something that I might be doing wrong. But the website provides a larger size manual. It still doesn't work, I should have gotten the hint when I purchased it the were a couple of packages that looked opened and returned. Now I know why, Doesn't work with Overhead Door.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work with my 2013 Avalon Read all reviews and come to same conclusions. I had no choice of the Garage door openers as my Garage was destroyed when a vehicle ran into it and the garage door openers were included in the repair. I also did not have my 2013 Avalon at that time so was not aware of ability to open door from vehicle. Since I did not have to Pay for the door openers? (I certainly paid with a destroyed Garage). I will opt for this Bridge to enable this feature on my car. If I understand correctly, I do not have to carry the bridge remote and can use the button on my mirror.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid for two years and counting This garage door opener has served me well for two years now and counting. It was a bit of a pain to install since I had to do it by myself, but overall it went Ok. This thing is indeed very quiet. The door goes up quickly, and considering we have an over-sized garaged door, that is impressive. The battery back-up has saved us a few times. We live in an older neighborhood with a lot of old trees. When there is any heavy wet snow or ice we tend to lose power for an hour or so each time. We have no worries about getting in or out. The battery seems to have lost a bit of its capacity, but that is expected over time. Overall this is a great opener!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Opener This is one of the best garage door openers I have ever owned. Quite and smooth as silk. I sometimes have to look back to double check that it's actually operating. I purchased this after my 10 year old unit died when one of the garage door springs broke. The repairman from a national chain recommended a Chamberlain belt drive while having a some Genie units in his truck. With regards to the battery, if you don't want to use it then either don't install it or if you want the beeping to stop; unplug the opener, remove the battery, plug it back in, problem solved. And for the gentleman having issues with the opening and closing, this unit has one of the most intuitive adjustment systems I have ever seen. Either read the manual or call up that reputable installer to come back and do it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't support third party integ like IFTTT Not a very forward thinking product which is surprising given what the product is. Customers have been begging for support with 3rd party API's like IFTTT for years, which has been a base feature for most of their competitors for years. There has been zero movement from their engineering team around supporting it. I'd return it if I could, but got it as a gift and didn't have the heart ask the gift giver to give me the receipt so I can return it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Included Power Supply is incompatible Just opened the brand new sealed pack and the provided power supply (wall wart) does not even fit the Gateway! The plug is too big for the socket. What a ridiculous oversight, and poor quality control. I wonder how many other units have this error. Now I am on the phone trying to get a hold of someone to get a replacement and have to wait for I wonder how long to get this thing working.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Missled I Bought a Chamberlain this time because I was replacing a Chamberlain that the drive sproket broke off. I thought by bying the same product I would not have any problems with my car working. The packaging says it was compatible, IT"S NOT. Now I have to buy another piece to make it work. NOT RIGHT Chamberlain, you should include the bridge in the package.
